Ahhh damn. I really like this guys game from what little i have seen of him. His game pops every shift. This guy has game. I would think he will be a solid all-round player in 3 years. He’s already pretty savvy positionally.
Get well RA

I like this guy but wanted Braden Schneider. So here it goes Schneider will be playing in the Nhl before Amirov ever will. So Dubas loaded up on a small skilled forward that are rampant in our lineup over a highly physical, defensively sound and offensively sound big RHD that we lacked.
No cap space to put this guy in the line up if he wasn’t injured. The dumpster dives @ $750,000 players are all that keeps us cap compliant.
I will compare these two picks for years to come. Close picks but I’d have rathered the big all round RHD

Amirov is not a small winger.

Fair point. Amirovs upside though is just ridiculous and so far he has shown to continously build up from his draft

He plays on KHL. That's not a league that's for minnows and 18 year olds never get preferential treatment. Points are hard to come by

I am very happy with this pick. Considering we have 2 young D already

I think one problem is that drafting Braden Schneider type players on first round have been historically bit of a risk. It's easier to be physical defenseman against juniors than pro players and that hulking presence might mask mediocre hockey iq and mobility. Amirov was best russian junior on his draft class and has been progressing well. We'll see which player is better eventually. I don't know how much covid affected our drafting. OHL players lost lots of games last season and KHL played whole season in europe. It gives some advantage to european players, usually NA juniors play more.

Trade him now before he has a good first few years in the league and Dubas' gives him $11m per year
For Dubas to give him 11m, he would have to put up one of the best pre-signing periods in the entire cap era, which would make "trading him now" before his ELC even starts one of the worst decisions in the entire cap era.

What makes you say that? Amirov isn't small. Since when is 6'1, 185 lbs small? He's already been playing in the 2nd best league in the world with Men and has done very well so far.

neither list him at that. I haven’t seen a listing at that weight and height yet. He looks about 170 in the pic with the sling on too in this thread. Skinny arms,no chest, no traps. He’s not very big. Marner looks bigger in his pics.
I didn’t just make it up he is small. No doubt all his weight is in his trunk being a hockey player but upper body is skinny

His agent Dan Milstein reported after the draft he was 6'1, 185 lbs. There was no draft combine due to covid so any height and weight measurements were likely from the fall the year prior therefore outdated.

It was talked about in this thread.
Prospect Info: - 2020 1st Rd Selection - #15 OA - LW Rodion Amirov (RUS) - 6'0", 177lbs

Well He is a teenager. Most hockey players don't have big upper bodies. They're built in the lower body and mid sections. Mcdavid for comparison is 6'1 and 193lbs on hockey db. I've seen him in person and he isn't a big guy by any means.

Amirov is a fantastic skater and like I said he has already been playing against men for the past year or so. I expect him to be competing for a spot as early as next year. By then I would imagine he will be around 195lbs with training, diet and another year of maturity.

Those sites are irrelevant. His agent literally reported his weight being 185lbs. He's 185lbs.

You're judging a hockey player based on his arm size? Clueless.
