Can you imagine having the balls to do media and talk about how the culture needed to be improved and then your offseason plan is to add a coach who tried to fight a player, a player who was tossed out of multiple orgs for treating other players terribly, and a player who understands it's his job to fight everyone else?

And then your GM goes into his press conference and talks about how it's time for some young guys to step up or they're gone? How could anyone have confidence in them?

I forget who said it whether it was a national guy or ASF as it was awhile ago & this stuff is -all running together at this point. But apart of the appeal of Tortorella to the Bullies was that he was going to run the players through a gauntlet essentially because they feel the players have gotten off too easy over the years.

Who?

JVR, Couturier, TK, Provorov, and Sanheim?

Hell if I was JVR I wouldn't be that motivated by this team when I'm constantly hearing they are trying to dump me.

Maybe just maybe.... adding skill over grit/intangibles would improve the on ice product but what do I know.

Well yeah and now they are going to have to fight their assistant coach so it will definitely be a good test for them.

I posted a thing awhile ago it was a segment with Aaron Ward talking about Marty St. Louis & how despite his coaching inexperience especially at the high level. He’s essentially made up for it with being able to resonate better with players than the older coaches. He’s played in the NHL with some of the veterans & he was coaching his kids who have been coming up through the ranks. So he’s familiar with both with both generations & he’s not too far removed from it himself.

This was around draft time so it was in the context of prospects interviewing but he said MSL was a big hit amongst prospects that interviewed with Montreal. He quickly won over the Montreal locker room when he got there. He said he’s doing so because he’s being genuine. He’s not trying to play games or put on some act. He said that’s why MSL has been such a hit so far & it’s the future of the game.

You can listen to former players on Chicklets too. Some of these guys are 40+ & played when goonery & fighting was more prevalent. So you can’t accuse them of being a “soft new generation” or whatever. Some of these guys have a general disdain for the some of these older coaches that are still coaching today. So they didn’t even always resonate with that generation either. Obviously these guys just took it & kept their mouths shut back then because that’s just the way it was. But that’s changing. Some of these older coaches just power trip for the sake of power tripping & now players are pushing back on that because in reality it doesn’t even really make sense.

Hang in there chuck. There's only so much you can do.that egotistical asshole hextall left you in a bad spot. Ellis. Costs. Farabee now..... in my day we played through injuries. These players today, they just can't get right. There too soft. If a teammate back in my day tried pulling shit like these guys, I tell ya.... emblem before the number is what I say. Ask Homer, he knows. "Papa Clarke, your a genius...... I gotta go ill call you back before bedtime. I love you too."

Isn't this the guy that took off his shirt in a meeting and told Evander Kane to fight him?

EDIT: Yes, yes it is
haha that is awesome. This thread is not though, it's downright weird seeing hockey fans who are 'against' toughness lol. Wish my Leafs hired someone with fire in the belly like this guy. And my Blue Jays they go through huge losing streaks and players are literally dancing in the dugout. One guy is pouring a bag of peanuts on the coaches head and the coach just stands there smiling lol.

Toughness on the ice is one thing. Your assistant coach trying to fight a star player is a different thing altogether. Not to mention this guy got fired by the Sharks because he refused to get vaccinated.
