Why should Hank take a discount? It's not like Sather's going to put that extra space to better use.

Just noticed Zucc logged 5 minutes more ES time than Rick Nash. Hows that for a injury comeback

Is anyone bothered by the fact that Hank isn't even on his new contract yet and people jump on him for making 8.5 mill a year every time he does anything that isn't absolutely perfect?

A. Letting in 2 goals a game is good by the standards of any goalie.
B. Hank isn't on his new contract yet
C. The Canes have a good goalie who is cheap due to his relatively underwhelming history. Good for them. The Rangers had Hank on sweet deals for the past decade almost. Players grow up and eventually get paid if they've been playing over their pay grade for years and years and years.

First it's not like Hank's current contract is a chump change. He's being paid like a very top tier elite goaltender, which he is, and it implies making a difference with tough saves when it matters the most (the same applies to elite field players - make a difference with a goal, assist or a defensive play when it matters the most). I fully acknowledge that it is largely due to Hank that Rangers made it ECF and second rounds in the last few years. However he hasn't done it this season - carrying the team on his back - which is the reason why we are in the race for the play-off spot instead of competing for the top spot against the Pens and Boston. While tough saves in key stretches of a game can inspire your team and deflate your opponents (including opponents goalies), allowing a goal in a tight game would work the opposite. Im expecting that Hank will eventually work it out some time this season, however it is laughable if you think that the Rangers are a contender this season without Hank's going into god mode for the remainder of the season and into play-offs if he can carry the team there. In the latest stretch he was outplayed by Bernier, Mason and Khudobin and it is unacceptable for an elite goaltender.

What a waste. I hate Nash for what he is... a lazy, unmotivated, show-up-whenever-i-want, never go into the dirty areas, loser player

are we talking about the Nash who outscored MZA despite playing 5 less minutes (nothing against MZA, just seemed like a really dumb point to make) and who is on pace for 36 goals across an 82 game season (and will likely end up just shy of 30)?

You don't have to like the guy but some of the hyperbolic hatred spewed on here goes a bit too far IMO

Nash is the floating equivalent to Ovi... at least Ovi puts it away each game... I see too often that Nash is either afraid of going to the middle of the ice, or tries to dangle his way through 3 defenders... doesn't work well as a team player, too selfish with the puck (which would usually be ok, except there are too many instances where he just loses the puck instead).

He's not that good defensively either. for $7.8M/yr? Ugh, waste of money

Nash is not similar to Ovi at all. He's actually quite good as a defensive player. He can kill penalties and has been good in that role with us, including the assist on the McD goal last night.

Obviously you can't see through those blinders though. I don't LOVE Nash either and don't think he's worth that contract, but give credit where it's due.

Your entire paragraph was completely false.

Haven't read the whole thread but the discussion of Kreider is interesting. He has been a shell of himself from earlier in the year, imo. However, during that short stint when he was with Richards and MSL he seemed invigorated to me. It's funny to me how we went from having 2 coaches over 7 years who constantly and maddeningly broke up lines that were going "in order to get other guys going" and now we have a coach who I wish would be a little more proactive. Of course, until like 5:20 to go in the 2nd Stepan had 3 minutes in that period (which maybe woke him up just a bit?), and AV was doing fun things with the lines MSL and MZA were inspiring...so maybe he'll try and fine tune a little and put CK with MSL and Richie. Really feel like Kreider is wasted on his current line because he doesn't get to use his setup skills much. He's a really great passer, I think. Now, if only he had a better head on his shoulders for playing D, but maybe that's the rookie in him.

Nash is what he is, a very good goalscorer. I'd say that the fact he takes a regular PK shift nullifies the 'floater/lazy' tag, but it doesn't really matter. Is he worth $7.8? No, but everyone knows Howson was an idiot.

I've said this before, but Nash should be the secondary piece, playing on a different line to your main threat (eg Gaborik or maybe now MSL). He doesn't make players around him better (they'll pick up some cheap assists) and he doesn't need top line players around him (his play and goal totals would be similar playing with any of Step, BR, Brass or Miller), he just gets the puck and either scores or doesn't

the entire paragraph? You can't argue that half the time you watch him dangle and he just loses the puck, or tries to split 3 defensemen and has no success...

I like the guy for what he is, a goal scorer, but he does not seem to be the motivated and snarly type of scorer.... very little "personality", he doesn't leave his presence on the ice like someone like Zucc does

I thank the lord every game for the fact that we no longer have Juggerello as our coach

How about a young player that is incredibly strong and fast somehow show more than a fringe NHLer? Good players make their lines better. He is playing far below the abilities he has flashed. Last year, I was told it was Torts' fault. This year he is on the wrong line. Just maybe the blame is his.

Enough with the excuses, already. He has 80 regular season games under his belt and has appeared in the playoffs twice. He understands what the NHL is by now.

I still think he has a potentially bright future, but right now he should probably be out of the lineup and certainly should not be on the first line.

To an extent I feel the same way, HOWEVER I understand AV's thinking that skills set of this line's players complement each other and therefore he wants them to "work it out" on their own. It's obviously a bit passive approach but when other lines are thought to be working - it seems to make sense to stick with it.

Yeah, in terms of hormones, there's a difference. Men are generally more masculine and women generally more feminine. The problem is when things perceived as 'feminine' are ridiculed, or at least not given the same respect as things perceived as 'masculine'. That's passive misogyny.

So, yeah, it's silly to make fun of a guy for wearing a skirt. Nothing other than arbitrary social constructs dictate skirts should be worn by women.

Simple as that. Well spoken!
