A little surprised that Metsa settled for an AHL deal, but maybe he sees a pathway to earn an NHL contract in an organization that isn't exactly stocked with D prospects.
He was one of the college players you guys were hopeful the Sabres might try to grab, correct ?

Yep, was well regarded at the end of last year and instead of taking a contract, he went back to chase a championship. He was at the development camp, as was Erie's Spencer Sova as invited RD. He didn't have as good a season this year as last and I'm sure that pinged his value.

Is there an AHL salary limit on ELC?

I'm just wondering if he can have a higher AHL salary by signing an AHL only contract.

If they ever want him on the roster, they would have to sign him to a NHL contract like they did with Dalton Smith and Houser

Not sure but that's an interesting idea. Crafty if they can.

For those that are more clued in, can Metsa make the Sabres?

@elchud has the right of it. Opinion only - I think they want to see what they have in those guys and if they are good, they will get an NHL deal. Murray did the same thing - signed an AHL deal and worked up to a deal with the big club. And there are a number of guys who have done just that, turning out as quality NHLers (Connor Clifton, Jake Middleton are two that come to mind).

*Caveat: not saying Metsa or Jandric will be Clifton/Middleton level players, just that it can happen.

Rousek - still up in Buffalo.
Biro and Kozak out, still hurt.
Pilut and Weissbach are out, last report was they were both sick.
Subban to start tonight.
Kulich again at center.

There is a maximum minor league salary for players on an NHL ELC. I do not know of any salary restrictions on AHL contracts. That said, the maximum minor league salary for an undrafted free agent signing an ELC now would be about $80k

Well I hope Rousek gets in the Sabres game. Kind of a shit call to hurt the Amerks for insurance against injury in the pregame skate in a meaningless game. I know he gets NHL checks either way…but who cares about the 13th or 14th forward in the last game of a year you are eliminated? Amerks games matter

I don't have an issue with it. Amerks are in and he'll be back for game 1.

They can still win home ice and an outside chance of falling to the playin round. Buffalo is playing for nothing…and he might just be in the pressbox.
