Re: Kulich at center...its definitely something that needs to be tried and if he isn't an absolute natural center he at least has center tendencies. But it has more to do with there being an overflow of wings in Rochester and a serious shortage of centers. He is a top4 center on the roster simply by default, it's Biro Malone Kozak and Jobst and you figure he is at least as effective as Jobst right now in the pivot by sheer talent alone.

They are very small down the middle and it's one of their biggest flaws. They're also small and non-physical at defense which isn't a great combo when thinking about how centers are usually the deepest support... they get pushed around on the forecheck.

Yep yep. We really haven't drafted with the thought of making balanced or more effective top-20 rosters at either NHL or AHL level. We draft the players that are best available or that we see something there that we can't say no. And that's fine I guess.

More that they didn't get one of the legit AHL scoring centers that are available in the summer to shelter the kids more. They don't have a Blackwell or Danforth surprise either. I think Appert sort of called out that they need help there by talking about how they'd played Warren in the middle but that Warren is very much a winger who was trying to help the team. I think that was in one of his press conferences earlier in the week.

It's not so much drafting to make that work better, it's the off-season roster crafting. They went with Malone who has issues physically as he is so broken that he can't play in back-to-back games. Sheahan not being a viable option hurt 'em too - it's not like he was good in the handful of games he played, it seemed his heart was not in it any longer.

At least they managed to turn up Bartkowski to help anchor their d-zone play on the blueline. He's been a nice find. Davidson left - signed a full-season deal with Cleveland - and most of the rest of the more physical guys are a bit limited.

We certainly could have afforded to spend up to the buried cap limit on an AHL center like Tynan. Or veteran minimum for Poturalski a Buffalo boy. Shrug.

The Kulich experiment at center goes the other way - back on the wing with Rosen on LW as usual and Biro at center.

Didn't realize the PP that Rousek scored on was Tyce Thompson getting a penalty for hitting Kozak in the head.

While all of the late-game shenanigans was going on in the Sabre game, the Amerks melt down and give up FOUR in the last 10 minutes of the third to lose 5-2.

This was an ugly game with no flow, no real scoring chances. Graeme Clarke (Utica RHD) had a highlight reel goal. If the Devils want to load up for a playoff run, put him on your list of "guys to ask for in any potential trade with NJ."

Rousek cutting right to left in front of Kallgren and just snaps it five hole. Great goal, still think he should be given a look sooner rather than later.
