Our top six is already filled with young skilled players with others coming. Tkachuk, Stutzle, Batherson, Norris (when healthy), Pinto (when healthy ) & Greig (at some point) are all good young skilled players who will be around for a while & have top six skill. They also have a couple of veterans with top six skill in Giroux & now Perron & in future as these two age out they will likely replace them with other top six vet players they can afford.

One of the weaknesses of this team has been their bottom six & their defence. They are in the process of trying to improve their bottom six & their defence with two new additions on defence. Very few tems can afford to have highend skillset players in their bottom six unless they have a highend skillset on an ELC or a cheap vet aging out has a great yr. We have Pinto & Greig on affordable contracts that help the team's cap situation who both have top six potential.

One of the problems with this team is that most of the money is already going towards our best young players. Sanderson will be making $8 mil this yr & at some future point if Yakemchuk works out could also make a big $ number. Because the team is young they are trying to fill the bottom spots with better players that are affordable & play their roles properly something that has been a problem in the past having a good bottom six. Getting the right players in their right roles always takes time & sometimes they just luck into it. IMO Ostapchuk & Kleven could be this kind of player & maybe Halliday that really improve the bottom of the order & they could use a few more. Maybe Bourgault works out & maybe he doesn't, but IMO it's a swing for the fences for a guy who needs a change of scenery.

Staois tragetting right shot depth thorhgout our lineup - Perron, Amadio, Jenssen, Gaudette, Yakemchuk and now the trade for the two right shot forwards

Nice work Steve - basically his summer is get a goalie and a bunch of right shot players
I think this is part of it, it does seem to be a focus.

The other thing is we know the org likes Ostapchuk (left shot) and according to Martian they are giving Halliday (left shot) a serious look at camp. I suspect those two were ahead of Jarventie on the depth chart and our core is left shot heavy as is, so all of this likely factored in.

I see plenty of things I like in the following footage, as I do in the more recent footage available on him.

They were probably looking for more depth on RW & guys with much more compete level & hard to play against.

A little disappointing to lose Roby. I thought he was coming along too. But i guess they feel he wont make as good a role player that they can long term develop with waivers approaching. Guess it's up to Kleven now to salvage that once exciting 2nd round for us.

Jarventie wont be anything anyway

End up in Europe. Still mind blowing to me they passed twice on JJ Peterka

Oh well, feel nothing bout this trade
Especially since he was stutzles linemate and friend.
Really dumb organization. Reeeeally dumb.
(I twisted my mind into being optimistic about jarventie but as a scout who was watching both so much they should have known)

Roby Järventie has such a low motor that it's hard to envision what the path to the NHL is for him. I can't think of many guys that have come through the system that have had less fire in the belly. Maybe Logan Brown? He's mostly been an AHL powerplay specialist for the majority of his time in Belleville, and I'm not sure that's going to change. NHL size and an NHL one-timer, but a really ineffective 5-on-5 player. Odds are pretty good that he's back in Finland within a year or two.

I haven't seen Bourgault play since he was a junior, but I didn't care for him then.

Giving a pick to get Jake Chiasson seems kinda grim as well. He had 20 points in the ECHL last year, and is probably in tough to make what looks like a fairly deep Belleville lineup.

Ultimately, I'd be surprised if the three players in this deal combined to play even 100 NHL games.

Yeah, it seemed like Jarventie needed to make it as a top-6 player as he does not have the makings of a bottom-6 type player. I would tend to agree that he will be back in Finland/Europe by around this time next year. He showed flashes of what he can but not enough and then the season ending injury just sealed the deal.

Can't say I am liking the trend of what seems to be, unnecessarily giving away draft picks. I had really hoped that we would be done with that after Dorion but Staios seems to like doing it as well as we have seen it in this trade, the Joseph trade, the Jamieson Rees trade.

Oh well, it is what it is and at least we are no longer talking about people's dogs having diarrhea.
I am thankful for that with this trade.

Oiler fan, peace, etc.

I'm very curious as to how Bourgault develops in another system. Bakersfield's head coach is extremely conservative and none of our young forwards have had good years under him and he favoured giving slugs like Caggiula and Griffith powerplay time over younger options.

The D and goalies are progressing well, but pretty much nobody up front has taken a step forward.
To be fair, the only reason our younger forwards except Lavoie got opportunity is because we kept signing AHL veterans year after year to only win. This year, we barely have any AHL veterans

This is more or less my take on this deal, it seems like Staois is moving out some of the softer players who lack compete level & bringing in guys who may compete harder or be harder to play against. You never know maybe he hits a double or a triple with these guys, but in any case hopefully, it helps Bellevile be better.

Roby was picked as a project and actually took a big step last year before the injury. Strange move. I dunno the Oilers guys but I wasn't a huge hater of the jarventie pick.

Jarventie is probably going to be a better player then both and was closer to Nhl even with injury. But hey at least Bourgault is better than Boucher 😂.

I understand that we were looking for extra depth for Belleville , but I dont see a why this trade was needed.Just keep the guy your developing for a few years now.

Damn, I say this as a Bourgault fan (although I have cooled on his NHL upside), but this is a terrible trade

Chiasson has 0 value, why would you pay Jarventie and a 4th for Bourgault? I think he'll develop into a good defensive forward but Jarventie has much higher upside as of now and we are adding a 4th round pick...

Another uncanny Staios trade, I really don't like the way he trades.

I still like the fact that we acquired Bourgault but it seems like a straight up overpayment

I think Chiasson has some value. At the very least will help Belleville middle 6. We’ll see

The Greig pick was the right one. Greig won't score as much points as Peterka but is far stronger defensively on the forecheck and more positional versatility.
