Because Keefe is a joke for a coach!

Robertson 11 gp2 g3a5pts limited minutes,Malgin 17 gp 2g2a4pts,Reese21 gp3g1a4pts,Jarnkrok5g3a8pts,Holmberg8gp 2g1a3 pts, Engvall22gp 2 g 3a 5 pts give your head a shake lol

There is more to hockey, than points put up. Keefe, a NHL coach (a joke in your eyes) understands that.... you don't.

It's clear to many, that Robertson has some great skills, and has to grow other parts of his game quite a bit, to be a meaningful contributor.

His main argument is that if you create a depth chart he is certainly a top 12 forward on this team, so him being in and out while someone like Engvall being almost consistently in is not right
Keefe has something against Robertson? Engvall has been brutal for years against Habs 2 playoffs ago he did zero zero in series yet Keefe and his brilliance didnt even have Robertson on roster???

All the scouts and development staff in the world will not make a difference when the guy in charge thinks he knows better then everyone else how to build a team
Dubas worst GM in NHL

Simmonds has no value. That’s my point. Which is why no one will touch him on waivers.

Kerfoot is redundant on this roster because we have the same player littered throughout the lineup. I thought once we signed Jarnkrok that would be it for him because he’s essentially the same player albeit cheaper and without the baggage (poor discipline, bonehead playoff collapse moments, etc.). But we decided to keep him and now we can’t give him away. In honesty, we should have kept McCann going back to the expansion draft who offers similar qualities but also a legitimate scoring threat.

Your point regarding Engvall is true, but that’s assuming he’s playing well but he hasn’t been. Really unsure how Keefe can watch the tape of Engvall and not scream in the guys face for being so passive with his size. You don’t have to be mean but you shouldn’t be playing scared.

Robertson offers a true depth scoring threat at the very least which we don’t really have outside the big 4. He needs to be given some runtime to build that confidence and chemistry. Not sure what the hell you’re expecting from the kid in 8 minutes of ice time once a week.
Agree

I still think they need to see what they have in this guy and let him play every day. Everyone knows Engvall and Kerfoot won't be here long-term, why not give their ice-time to Robertson and see what you have over a consistent period in the top 6. Is there really that much harm in giving him 20-30 games next to Nylander-Matthews or Marner-Tavares and seeing what happens? If the playoffs are what ultimately matters why not experiment and see what you have.
Because he didnt play in the Soo lmfao

They've turned their season around by playing very solid hockey without the puck.

Robertson has to prove he can do that. He's been a liability defensively. No coincidence he's stapled with Kampf & ZAR in practice today

He needs game action to improve, so either play him or send him down to play. Should be using vets for spot duty in the NHL, not young guys.

Send him down... where he'd be making $70,000 instead of $765,000....

Send him down, where he wouldn't be working directly with the Leafs coaches, in every practise, on the areas they want him to work on... where he will be working with NHL players every day.

He's getting in every few games, they identify areas he needs to work, they work on it... then he goes back in, and then they work on it...

If they thought playing in the AHL would be more valuable for him, that he was THAT far away, he'd be there... but they want to work directly with him, and get him games, and plenty of direct feedback.

An extra $700k in pay is kind of nice too... and a reward for working hard.

One of the greatest weaknesses of drafting small players is that if they don't become top 6 players they have little value because of their size.

Simmonds because of his size and rep still has value when not scoring, that's not something that can be said about Robertson.

Kerfoot did appear to have value in the summer so why wouldn't TO try to cash into his value as a Leaf, 50 plus points, PKer, is/was trusted in all forward positions, the type of player that all teams including TO need.

Engvall moves the puck, PKs, can and has been scoring decently as a bottom 6er, has lots of speed and can decently play any forward position, can Robertson?

I think that all these players that are playing even tho you don't think they should, should give you an idea of how subgrade Robertson is in the eyes of Keefe and probably others, he's a scorer that has/is having trouble getting any puck touches during games
Simmonds isn't that big. He just has great fighting skills.

Folks don't know that only about 1 out of 20 pro players make it to NHL .. and that is after da weeding at junior where only 1 out of 20 make pro hockey .. and before that 1 out of 20 make OHL from MM AAA .. and before that 1 out of 10,000 make MM AAA from time they first laced up at 4 in competitive tyke hockey .. it is a rat race of rat races .. and so a kid like Robertson to get NHL pay and some game action is a tremendous achievement hockey players would die for .. trust me I know I was one of them who toiled for 9 years in minor pro trying to get to da dance

Ii like him, but I think he needs to play more in AHL. No use or him to sit on his ass. He can be called up if theres an injury.

Engvall is tall and doesn't use his size, he is also fast but he does use his speed, he kills penalties with that speed, he moves the puck again because of his speed and reach, If he used his size to intimidate how much does everyone think he'd be paid. Reaves gets $1.75 and he can't skate, can't score, well the list of his can'ts probably goes on for quite some time. Engvall makes $2.25 mil. and offers far more hockey player than pretty well every physical player known as a goon, TO's gone the goon route, it didn't work.

I don't know why people are so anxious about Robertson, he either will or won't become a decent, very good NHLer, right now he needs to deserve to be there, he doesn't.

I think they are looking to move someone first. There is more to this story. Dubas is under the gun this year, a trade of significance is highly likely and I will bet Kerfoot is a piece. Until then, it's in and out or back to AHL.

It comes down to usage for me. They don’t use him properly. If your going to play him as a 4th liner you may as well not play him. He doesn’t really work well with Tavares either. He needs to be a go to shooter on a line with say Kerfoot and Malgin or Nylander. Experiment with that for 10 games and see what you have. I agree he needs to get better not being the go to guy on a line though. But his shot has 30-40 goal potential and I never see him get a clear shot on the net. Getting him on a line with Malgin and Kerfoot would get him more shooting opportunities. But I’m not making excuses he needs to get way better without the puck.
