And he's out of the lineup tomorrow again for a stiff who's done absolutely nothing so far.
Keefe is extremely risk adverse

I don’t read it that way at all, it’s more about seeing what Holmberg is, can he fit into the lineup. It reads like Tre wants to see what they have there, they already know what Robertson is, before making any moves. Robertson is an NHler, it’s just a matter of is it or here or not, there are plenty of top 9’s that could use his skill set. What are your thoughts on keeping Nick Robertson out of the lineup in favour of Pontus Holmberg?
Keefe: It is just more about giving [Holmberg] a chance. We haven’t given him much of a look this season. At different times, we have, but the left wing is something he hasn’t had a great deal of runway with. In the last game, you can tell he looks like a guy who is adjusting a little bit to playing over there. We want to give him another opportunity to go.
With Robertson, there were 24-25 games without disruption. We have a pretty good sense of where he is at. With Holmberg, we just want to give him more of an opportunity. We will give it one more game, see how it goes, and evaluate it from there.

Sheldon Keefe on Nick Robertson remaining a scratch for the second consecutive game in San Jose: "After 24-25 games, we have a pretty good sense of where Robertson is at… We want to give Holmberg more of an opportunity”
After Friday’s practice, Sheldon Keefe discussed the team’s improved defensive play over the last handful of games, the plan in net for Saturday in San Jose, and the decision to keep Pontus Holmberg in the lineup over Nick Robertson vs. the Sharks. If a player can help you they are in the line up it;s that simple, if the coach says he knows what you are and you are not in the line up .... that speaks huge volumes. Looks like Nic might be more likely to be on a career AHL track than the NHL track ... his chances to show that he belongs in the AHL are running out.
Robertson is on pace for 37 pts in his rookie year playing on the 3rd line and barely any PP time. He is 22 yrs old. I would hardly think that's an AHL track. What are your thoughts on keeping Nick Robertson out of the lineup in favour of Pontus Holmberg?

The Swedish defenseman is long and strong, with a powerful, compact skating stride. He is growing from a player who relied mostly on his athleticism and raw tools (which helped him get picked No. 8 overall in the 2019 NHL Draft) into one who has touch, finesse and improved hockey sense as well. He is strong enough to win board battles and is sanding down a lot of the rough edges in his game. | |
Long Range Potential : Talented all-around defenseman with upside. |
Leafs fans already counting out a young improving player? Why am I not surprised.Robertson is on pace for 37 pts in his rookie year playing on the 3rd line and barely any PP time. He is 22 yrs old. I would hardly think that's an AHL track.

This fan base just doesn't learn.
Incorrect.
The chance to dump on a player is why half the posters are here.Robertson is definitely a talent, the willingness to battle is there, it’s just a question of gaining experience and improving understanding of the game. I don’t understand the desire to dump on the rookie who is 22 years old.
The other thread got closed. Are u in Toronto? If so just wondering did u go to shouldice for hernia surgery? The chance to dump on a player is why half the posters are here.
I agree - Keefe takes a pile of crap but this is not a decision he should take crap for. I also wanted Hildeby to see one these games, we won all three. Sometimes he gets things right.Incorrect? You think that it makes sense for a team to scratch a player who can help the team win? If Keefe felt Robertson did enough to fit a need / win a job, he would be playing. It would be like Keefe scratching Woll before he got hurt to see what other AHLer's could do in net. Woll did enough to win a job. Robertson has not, yet.
Take out Kämpf and keep Holmberg and Robertson.
They’ve all looked good at some point but I like McManns game and holmberg been solid to meHolmberg, Robertson, McMann are all players cut from the same cloth, they all get a job because of their cap hit, I'm not sure anyone of them has done anything to justify a "permanent" job in the bigs besides being cheap. They are like Andreas Johnson, Petan, Lindholm, Aberg, Gravel, Korshov, Shore, Timashov, Agostino, Boyd, Hutton, Nash, all are just names that are easily forgettable in a few years.
Maybe Robertson/Holmberg leaves the Leafs org and becomes a Noesen in Carolina or a Moore in LA, right now, he's not special in a Keefe system, just another name on the back of a Leafs jersey.
Robertson over Kampf makes us worse. Robertson offers nothing except a shot that other players need to setup. Lately the shot has been wild too. Wide in a way it can cause 2 on 1Take out Kämpf and keep Holmberg and Robertson.
It sure felt bad at the time when we passed on him.Moore 2.0
Holmberg takes Kämpfs spot and keep Robertson on the wing. Kämpf is an easy player to replace and doesn’t really do anything Holmberg can’t.Robertson over Kampf makes us worse. I agree Kampf is easy to replace but Robertson isn't the answer. At least Kampf can PK. What exactly does Robertson do for us?Holmberg takes Kämpfs spot and keep Robertson on the wing. Kämpf is an easy player to replace and doesn’t really do anything Holmberg can’t.
