What kind of package would it take to get RNH to the big apple? Would EDM be interested in a Player like Stepan to replace him? I think something around RNH + Klefbom for Stepan + Mcdonagh could benefit both teams although i think EDM adds slightly

I'm sure EDM would jump at the chance to get older and pay more money.

RNH to the Rangers isn't a fit. He's only maybe available for a very good right shot offensive defenseman.

(no, I don't expect anyone to offer that)

McD is untouchable and Step a pretty core guy

and RNH has that absurd cap hit for a 2d contract
(yeah i know they're all the rage in western canada)

I could see a deal with a package around Hayes, who's C job could go to RNH

but NYR, like EDM, really needs a top 4 Right D,
so don't see how deal gets expanded to include NHL D-Men

Hayes and B+ prospect like Tambellini, Nieves, Graves, Day, Halverson

but the EDM fans will say not enough

so we all go back to what we have today

If I was EDM I would trade Mcdonagh for Klefbom in a flash, but it still wouldn't be addressing their needs. They need to keep their top 4 Dmen.

I also don't get the motivation for this trade by NYR. It's rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic at best. You'd be sending away two really good players in exchange for two players who had injury riddled seasons. What's the upside to this move?

Edmonton would have to sell quite a bit extra something if they want to take McDonagh too.

If Chiarelli received this offer, I'm sure he would run down the street naked.

Original deal makes no sense for the Rangers. Even with getting younger, this doesn't help. But, come on, you're not seriously suggesting Hayes to be a center piece in a trade for RNH? I mean, you might get a backup stick from RNH for that, but he certainly won't be coming with that.

i am not saying its a wash, NYR would have to add a bit more,

but why should they go overboard - to add a young talented top 6 C?
they just added one in Zibenejad

NYR has NO great incentive here,
i get that the EO fans want a home run to continue the shakeup

Hayes is the best forward (aside from Nash) that NYR would include, and he could assume RNH's C minutes.

from NYR side, that's where a useful deal would most likely start

We can actually pretty much promise that he can't.

It was reported that the Oilers looked into that route talking about Taylor Hall, and Shattenkirk said no.

Yea it's unfortunate. Supposedly Chiarelli would have still made the deal if Stl added something very valuable. I guess he thought he could convince him over the season to stay

I'd love to get RNH, was a big fan of the trade last year.

I wonder what objective fans think?

Nuge is a great hockey player, I think he's far better than Stepan. Could be completely wrong though.

No dog in this fight. Not an EDM or NYR FAN. RNH and Stepan are similar in value. RNH was anything but great last year, but I'm willing to write that off and say he'll return to form this year.

You aren't basing this off just a couple of WHC games, are you? Cause if you are, that's a pretty small sample size. Why not look at their actual careers?

No brother, I've watched 100s of games played by Nuge. About 15-20 for Stepan.

That's why I asked for objective opinions, I'm always willing to admit my own bias if it is there. I think Nuge has something to him, he'll be a top level 2-way C in the years to come. I'm curious what others think of him.
