Haven't watched much basketabll since...2010 really. But Kobe Bryant was as much a part of my childhood as Teemu Selanne was.

Absolutely devastating. RIP.

I don't watch basketball but even I realise that this is a big news.

Not the biggest basketball fan, but Kobe is one of the select few professional athletes who was a stud from my childhood until adulthood. Glad I got to see two great finals series against the Celtics, he was special in both. RIP Mamba, and all the families connected to this tragedy. This one has truly shocked the entire sports world.

This is just so tragic and shocking. I've barely been able to get off my couch and go do things since I heard of it like 4 hours ago. Just watching news, tributes and youtube videos of Kobe the last 4 hours basically.

So ******* awful.

What a horrible tragedy for all nine people involved.

I can't even imagine the pain Kobe's wife, and the families of everyone on board, must be feeling.

Today sucks.

Damn we have 9 total dead. I want full investigation on this please. My tax dollars are ready to be used on this LOS ANGELES county. You’re not taking a childhood hero away from me without me being pissed off.

What do your tax dollars have to do with any of this? LA County didn't take Kobe away, it was a tragic accident. Kobe is synonymous with LA and loved, step off the ledge

This is some tragic shit, man.

Growing up not far outside the Philadelphia area, Kobe was like a superhero to sooo many people. This is unfortunately gonna be another one of those "where were you when?" scenarios everyone will remember years from now.

RIP Kobe and Gianna and everyone else involved.

Truly a sad day for sports.

I'm like many of those who posted they don't follow basketball. I haven't watched any real basketball game from start to finish ever in my life - only in some video game videos.

Yet, even I, like those others who don't watch basketball, know the name Kobe Bryant.

Best travels to him - RIP.
