Prospect Info: Riley Kidney, LHC, Gatineau Olympiques (QMJHL ), 63rd overall

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I've watched this kid since he was in Bantam, he has long been a top player in the Maritimes but has just continued to improve every year. Bathurst should be a good team to watch next year with 4-5 legit NHL prospects on the roster. Hendrix Lapierre was traded there in the offseason and they also had another few guys picked.

Kidney is smart, that's his #1 attribute out there, but he's very skilled too. I am at the very least highly intrigued with the pick. Given the year (or lack of for many prospects) we had, I think taking him late 2nd was pretty safe.

...that was awesome...sounds like his brother (or whoever that was) is a Habs fan...:thumbu:

His brother is on CB Eagles, that was likely him. NS is like a 3 way melting pot for Habs/Leafs/Bruins fans so I would give it at least 33% he is one. If not, likely just very happy his brother was taken.

...I'm a Nova Scotian, amigo, I know we're full of Habs & Bruins fans...too many Laff fans as well, but that just makes the chirping here more fun...

First round talent and I like his interview, looks like a pretty good kid. Like Suzuki, Caufield, KK and Romanov. Looks a underrated prospect and should go more higher than #63.

I'm seeing names like kreicji, Oates. And Ribeiro being thrown around in here.

That paints a pretty clear picture that the guy is a play making specialist.

Looking solely at the highlights, and comparing him to Joshua Roy, he doesn't look slow. He doesn't have explosiveness, but that will come with a stronger lower body and core.

Wish we'd focus on players that are all around strong skaters as it seems like many players have a hard time improving on that.

From his highlights only (havent watch him this year at all) he seems to be the perfect centerman for Caufield, always finds his teammates on the ice, really pass oriented

I know at one point in the playoffs it was said that if you at his assists in the regular season plus playoffs he had 35 assists and 31 were primary assists.
That's insane, anyone ever had so many primary assists compared to secondary assists? And at a high volume, too

Timmins said hes 6'0 180 lbs.
Not a big person, but not a small person either.
That is approximately the size of his brother Liam, 20 YO....
Riley might not look like a speedy skater, but he however will turn on a dime and will pickpocket the D from the puck and stickhandle the puck across any defense, at the junior level, without losing sight of available teammates....the puck sticks to him like I have rarely seen and he is constantly in pursuit of it if not in possession and control.
All combined, he makes for a very dynamic and effective forward in the offensive zone while being pretty good on 200 feet.

The more I read about him, the more I think he have potential to become a top 6 player.

If he become the 3/4 of Nick Suzuki, that would be amazing.

Like Suzuki, big hockey IQ, sick hands, two-way ability and big playoff performance.

Or even winger to play with KK or Poehling.

This team can use playmakers more than shooters. After Suzuki, we don't have any. Drouin doesn't count.
