They guy deleted it and then tweeted admitting he made a mistake. He said Kidney was traded to Drummondville. But he later corrected himself saying he got some wrong info. @Le Berge posted the tweet where the guy admits he got wrong info.

What was the rush to sign him ?

His ELC slides. So it doesn't matter that they signed him now. Not to mention he was signed after putting a 100-point season.

You reward prospects who are exceeding expectations.
Exactly, great motivation for Kidney to keep working on his faults and strengths because he knows his current efforts have been recognized. Putting pen to paper is probably an absolutely surreal experience especially for kids who don't go in the first round.

They also get their signing bonus each year (even in junior). $90k is a nice amount at 18 (buy a car, hire a coach, help your family, etc)

I think he runs an offensive line from the 3 spot. Kidney is also really smart defensively just needs to improve face-off (strength is the issue).

Obviously this never pans out but I see something like this

Tuch-Suzuki-Caufield
Farrell-Wright-Ylonen
Anderson-Kidney-Roy

Essentially the concept is you add a big body puck retrieval forward who gets to the net with Suzuki and Caufield.

Farrell is a two way winger with high playmaking so he would control the game from the wing and also contribute to shutting down.

Then Anderson would be the big body to shoot while Kidney and Roy use their abilities to attack.
You have 5 in top 9 from 2nd round pick or less. Just picking 1 top 9 is a home run, you got 5 home run

Help your family?

Its 90k…..not 900k

Buy a car…..maybe a second hand Honda lol

He’ll get taxed on the 90k and bring home 63k….about that

That’s like 2500$ every two weeks.

Anyways….sorry to nitpick

There was an article recently in LaPresse about Samuel Girard (post Cup win). He was expressing gratitude at his family especially his brother.

Family didn’t have enough money to put 2 kids in midget AAA so his brother let Samuel go on since he was more talented… Xhekaj was working at Costco during the pandemic.

I get it that it’s not a big amount but they are 18 or 19. I’m sure it’s welcomed money and yeah it’s probably a used Honda.

Yes, I agree it's a nice amount. I guess I interpreted the "help the family" quote as in paying off a mortgage or something of the magnitude.

I guess one can do some groceries for their parents or make a car payment or clear a credit card.

I don't dispute the amount and helping the actual player, especially at that age, I just probably jumped the gun on the helping the family cause usually, these athletes will get their first NHL cheque and buy dad a brand new F250.....

Sorry if I came across as a entitled prick that spits at 90K

63k is a lot of money when you don't pay rent.
It is....I agree 100%

I just put help the parents as in pay off a mortgage or buy a car when many vehicles nowadays are easily over 100K. (typical of athletes to gift these type of things to their parents after signing a contract)

I interpreted his quote wrongly and apologized to the poster.

That’s fine. These goofs rake leaves or wash dishes? I’ll sponsor one if they can fix my lawnmower!

Nope. They do their own laundry though. People do it because they love junior hockey and want to help the young guys.

Here's an example from Missisauga:
What we look for in a Billet Family:
– Clean, smoke-free welcoming home

– Private room with a bed, good mattress and a desk/workspace for homework

– Nutritious meals and snacks

– Proximity to the Paramount Fine Foods Centre, Philip Pocock CSS and Blyth Academy

– Support of team rule enforcement including curfew, community engagement, academic standards etc.

Your Responsibilities:
– A private room with single or double bed per player; a good mattress is important

– Dresser & Closet Space

– Suitable private area with good light & desk space for studying / homework

– A player may share a room with another player, but NOT with another member of the billet family

– Providing towels, shower supplies (Personal items such as shampoo, toothpaste, and other toiletries are the responsibility of the player)

– Personal laundry is to be done by the player

– Dry Cleaning is the player’s responsibility

– High-speed internet

– Nutritional healthy meals

– Parking space should be provided for a player with his own vehicle (note: very few players have vehicles)

Your Benefits:

– two complimentary tickets per billeted player for all Steelheads home games including playoffs

– Monetary compensation of $450.00 per month, per player

– 15% Discount off all regularly priced Steelheads merchandise

The AHL team Jason Clarke left AB for is the San Diego Gulls. He will be an Assistant Coach there.

Things aren't looking good for AB lately. There has been rumor that they will relocate to the south shore of Montreal.
