Rick Tocchet not returning to the Canucks

Quinn is angry folks....

"I hope he's playing golf because he usually returns my calls right away and I called him within half-an-hour of talking to Rick and he hasn't called me back," says Jim Rutherford when asked if he's talked to Quinn Hughes about Tocchet's departure.

If this is a real quote someone needs to put a muzzle on Rutherford, jeez.

I don't think it matters all that much. Less than half of the ten most recent Stanley Cup champions won their division. The Oilers in particular qualify for the playoffs every year and were a win away from the Stanley Cup last year. That's all that ultimately matters.

Maybe it's that I grew up on the Penguins side of the Pens-Caps rivalry, but division titles really aren't a necessary stepping stone to a Cup.

And yet Vancouver won a divisional title last year. Something the Oilers or Devils haven't had a prayer of doing despite all the yahoo hype they get
Did they hang it next to the "went 4-0 against EDM in the regular season" banner?

How did he reject them? Tocchet wanted to be the 3rd highest paid coach in the NHL. What’s he proven to deserve that?

Let’s not forget how everyone laughed when Vancouver hired Tocchet in the first place.
He got them in the playoffs for the 1st time in 10 years. SOmething we might not see for another 5-10 years

Who cares? He sucks as a head coach anyway.

Not sure why people love him so much. One playoff berth in a season that wasn't abruptly halted by a pandemic.

The people who run Vancouver also suck, so they'll probably bring in some other shitty coach to replace him with.
Very true. But it's hilarious how broken Vancouver is tbh. It's awesome!

Tocchet is such a Philly coded coach I had to make sure he hadn’t actually coached them already

He worked as a TV Studio Analyst off and on for years during Flyers games. So he's been around and has a lot of friends here. The fans dont want him as coach though. We know how mid he is.

Remember how people were ready to write off Keller in Arizona? Then Tocchet got lost and he had a career year in Utah. That should be music to Petey’s ears.

On the other hand, Quinn seemed to really enjoy having Tocchet as a coach. Combine that with Rutherford’s foot-in-mouth moment at the press conference and it might be the beginning of the end of his time in Vancouver.

Sorry, I do not count the bubble. VAN was behind NSH and not even in a PO spot when they shut the season down. They were given one. For me it's 1/10
Well the NHL doesn’t discredit the season, so it’s factually a 2 series post season win.
