nash is pretty much what he is now.

rather than score, he's left to be judged by effort and trying. numbers are glossed over by the glare of empty talent irrespective of results. he's always close and certainly looks the part all while failing.

hes like that natural sales guy that cant close any deals. he's eventually let go only to end up as a customer service rep someplace.
He’s like that natural sales guy who was among the best salesman in the world for a while, then was the best salesman in your company for a while, and now he’s lost his touch for the most part but his contract is up at the end of the year.

Nothing to constantly complain about. He’s in the twilight of his career. He’s being paid for past performance like 99% of players are at the end of their biggest deals. He won’t be back and that’s fine.

Nah there's still plenty of season for ODC to cut and paste the same exact post every day in this thread for the next 6 months.

In all fairness to his twilight years , Rickie has been annoying the shit out of me since he was 29.

His two-way game and scoring ability command a premium, for sure, but this is a ridiculous premium -- especially when scoring ability has not translated to scoring.

hes not lifting the puck and its killing his ability to score. thats really all it comes down to..hes doing everything but when it comes time to shoot, everything is low...if thats the case he needs ppl crashing for rebounds...doesnt matter though..hes playing fantastic hockey at literally everything except for putting the puck in the net...kinda reminds me of the way Chris Higgins was for us before he left...i had ZERO problems with his games...except for the fact that he couldnt friggin score.

Nash doesnt need to score to be "Rick Nash".

The Rangers dont NEED Nash to score to be an effective offensive team.

Rick Nash is not the Rangers primary offensive threat...if he was, this season would be over...its not (though id still look to rebuild).

Rick Nash isnt the 2nd offensive threat...to be honest..hes like 7th on my list..when I think of the Rangers offensive threats it kinda goes like this...
Zibanejad, Kreider, Buchnevich, Zucc, Miller, Shattenkirk, Hayes...then either Grabner or Nash.

It just is what it is now..you can either accept it, or make 5 billion posts saying the exact same thing over and over and over again. 8 mil for a checking player..8 mil for 2 goals, 8 mil for blah blah blah blah blah

Who was that forward from LA, who always tried the wraparound and it never worked? He even got a PGT award named after him. It's the same with Nash. He does his power move that everybody is waiting for - and then he slides the puck right into the pad of the goalie, who has basically been waiting for the puck slide even before the power move was initiated.

And when he's in a real cold streak, he doesn't even do that. Then he just shoots logo muffins from the perimeter. Sure, he's a good two-way player, but you don't pay players $7.8m to be a defensive forward. He's paid the second most on the team, but is in reality maybe the 7th scoring threat, as inferno mentioned.

My guess is Nash is gone this summer, or he re-signs at a much lower price than his previous salary. I wonder if his ego can take that.

For what it's worth I'm sure he'll still get around 20/25 goals when the season is done. Also as many have said it's the last year of his contract. Let it slide.

Hey guys, flames fan here wondering what kind of realistic return you guys are expecting to get if Nash were to be traded at the deadline? I know his numbers have declined a bit and at $8M, his salary and cap hit might hamper some of his value. But is your front office looking more at picks or prospects? How’s the current goaltending depth?

Assuming Nash stays healthy and projects to more of the 20-25 goal range, I think they'll expect a late first rounder from a team or a solid B-level prospect who is ready to step into the NHL sooner rather than later.

if he's traded to a contender, and he's having a base line nash season, so something like 30-35 points, i would expect a decent prospect who is close.

if its a pick, i would expect a 1st rounder or a high 2nd and a 3rd based on name alone.

i think the return for nash will be less than most here believe. the rest of the league watches games too. he just doesnt have much left in the tank and comes off to me as a guy who's skills and desire (due to injuries) have declined pretty rapidly the last 2 seasons.

why must he have a no trade clause to any canadian team? lol

Because most of the Canadian teams were tanking when he became a Rangers, and maybe tax reasons.

He doesn't. He submits a list at the rangers request once per year of the 12 teams he does not want to be traded to. It's the last year of his contact, and 6 out of 7 Canadian teams are decent this year, 4 of those 6 have good playoff chances

For the record, his list isn't set in stone until he submits it. He could, close to the deadline, submit a list with Canadian teams on it.

The "No Canadian Teams" is not something that lasts throughout his contract. I believe it was just that iteration of the list.

That being said, he probably just submits the same list every single time.

Nash to Edmonton should be a match made in heaven. The Rangers retain some of his cap hit. Nash plays with McDavid and allows Leon to slot into that 2C spot.

Go after Pulujaarvi

My concerns about Pulujaarvi aside for a moment, Edmonton isn't trading him for Rick Nash and I'm not sure I see them as a match for getting a prospect or young player back. I like Tyler Benson, but he has a hard time staying in a lineup.

If they make a move, you're probably looking at a pick with Edmonton. But they have to be in a position to make the playoffs first.

I think if we're looking at the Western Conference, it's more likely a deal would be had with San Jose, Nashville, or possibly dark horses like Colorado or Calgary.

His shot is weak and he can’t get the puck off the ice in tight. Therefore he gets a crazy amount of chances and can’t convert. He should have tried a shorter more flexible stick by now. A la Alex Ovechkin.
