Rick Nash to team Canada

It's a hockey team, not a fantasy team.

They're not gonna put passers with other passers. Marleau and Kunitz were chosen over MSL and Giroux because they score goals.

its funny how other team GMs hold our players in a strong light..

Hagelin
Stepan
Nash
Callahan
Mcdonagh
Hank

i think as fans we undervalue and under appreciate some of those guys a little to much.. its no joke and easy task making those teams.. these teams are constructed to win, not just show up..

lets be a little wiser in how we comment on them.. but congrats to all.. MSL and Thorton are my only snubs

Perhaps, but I think a team full of Olympians and All-Stars should be much better than fighting to stay over .500. The players are probably overrated in that case.

Edit: 1000th post :naughty:

hahaha can't argue that.. sound about right..

Ugh. Nash had no business making the team.

Would have loved to see St. Louis make it. Given that this will be his last chance to play in the Olympics, and that he is legitimately still one of the most talented wingers in the world, let alone Canada, he should have been selected (he is 2nd amongst all RW's in PTS for Canada, w/ 38 points in 42 games, without playing with Stamkos for most of the season).

St. Louis is a passer, but he literally is a player that can do everything offensively. He can score, he can pass, he can utilize his speed to break up plays, he's still an elite forward, with international and Stanley Cup experience.

Didn't make sense to leave him off.

You know Kunitz made it because of his chemistry with Crosby, and that holds its own merit.

Some choices for Canada were questionable, including Rick Nash's selection given his recent performance in the post season and lack luster effort in this years regular season.

Wow, kind of surprised that Nash on his own team's board is getting raised eyebrows. Based on past performance he could be on the team, but not based on this year and even the last couple. Especially when Martin St. Louis isn't on the team.

This is very simple. Canada took playmaking centers and goal scoring wingers. Nash is a goal scorer. He's struggling this season so far, but aside from literally ~30 games this year, he's been incredibly consistent when it comes to scoring goals.

Coulda fooled me. I thought he was a soft lazy floater.

You should stop thinking so much.

Maybe judge players based on the overwhelming majority of their work instead of what they did in an arbitrary time frame.

He's definitely all those things, even when he's scoring goals. He's not physical, he's soft, he's not a high motor or high energy guy, he's lazy, and he's never been known to backcheck hard, he's a floater.

If you want to say his offense makes up for all that, that's an argument that can be made, but positives don't erase negatives. They can mask them, they can make up for them, but they don't erase them.

The thing with Nash though is that he has had stretches of dreadful play within his career. 2011-12, a season which he bombed, the 2013 playoffs, and now the current regular season in a span of 3 seasons. No way should that level of inconsistency make the best hockey team on the planet, especially over the reigning Art Ross Trophy winner.

Well thats a weak argument considering that St.Louis has scored more goals than Benn, Nash, Bergeron, Duchene and Carter.

Thought about this today as well... how many teams have 7 (yes SEVEN) players going to olympic teams to represent their countries? and how many of them have done it over and over again? It's a testament to their skills for sure.

PS: added Zucc, looks like you forgot him! :)

Eh, when you look at it more closely it's not that impressive. First of all, back it down to six legitimate choices because with MZA, because you or I could just about walk onto Norway's roster because they suck at hockey. Then you have the "what were they thinking?" picks headlined by Nash, and followed up by Stepan. Callahan was a reputation pick. And then you're left with a more modest three solid reps.
