Yeah I don't think getting "rid" of Nash is a very proactive move. If we can't get good value for him, we should keep him.
Think LA will take him for Gaborik?![]()
I feel like Nash's personality keeps him from being great. He seems like a quiet, mellow, nice guy. Kreider on the other hand seems like an arrogant ******* on the ice. If Nash was more cocky and confident, I think he would be one of the best forwards in the league.
Asterisk to my yes, I want 'enuf' return.
Has more value in returned cap space then in $$ paid.
However, only the correct deal makes sense to move him.
Last night's SCF finale debacle underscores what I mean when I say he is snake bit. He was stopped not on a missed shot, or an unconscious save, but by a defenseman's stck! More precisely the thin shaft of a stick!
Snake bit may or may not come into play next year, but his contract follows him.
However, that is NOT the same as deadwood, which is what Brad Richards has become.
If memory serves, Nash has NMC now, next year is limited NTC.
If he's smart, he makes nice to help us move him, and in exchange we can try to be accommodating as possible.
But if not now, net year for sure.
Buh-bye
I think we are looking at his numbers too much.
Yes, he didn't have a great playoffs.
But he also improved as it went on. In rounds 1 and 2 he just stunk. In round 3 he started to understand what playoffs were all about. His physical and defensive play improved.
In the Finals he was matched against a rather perfect team. So you have to take your game to another level again and he didn't quite get there.
Few teams will want him or offer much for him.
Keeping him is the best option. I believe he has to improve his conditioning. At times he looked out of breath or just tired. So that will help him.
Now that he has playoff experience in a long playoff run, he knows what it takes. Mind you, Gaborik never performed this well in playoffs until this year. So it does help to gain playoff experience.
I think Nash fits in with our fast paced style of play. He also adds much needed size and is finally starting to use it. Keep him and buy out Richards!
NHL teams won't just look at his numbers.
They will look at his cap hit and years left on his contract as well.
If Nash had a cap hit of say $4-$5 mill I'm sure more than a few teams would show interest.
Team leading goal scorer the last two seasons.
Who replaces his production?
Give him a full healthy season. He woke up in the CF but ran into a defensive force in the SCF.
I expect 35-65 next season. Cant trade that.
We made the playoffs with him contributing 39 points, and made the SCF with him contributing 3 goals. I think we'll find a way.
Yeah Gaborik likely would have been worse than Nash if he were on the Rangers, not riding the coattails of an elite center.
He didn't do so bad the first time around, just got hurt and Torts didn't know what to do with him:

He meant in the playoffs, when Gaborik played more like Maid Marian than the Gaborik we saw this year.

1every team in the damn league would trade for him.. his production isn't replaceable.. hes a solid player.. 2maybe no playoff performer, but he has pride and wants to do more.. richards is the issue, and should be the target of more criticism.. guy gets paid more, and is in a position that merits more weights of a number 1 c..
We made the SCF with Nash helping to drive play whenever he was on the ice. Him and Stepan, and then later Kreider, went against the best players in the league. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Claude Giroux, Anze Kopitar, etc. The only series where they didn't go against worldbeaters is in MTL.
As much as i'll beat the Stepan drum, Nash is just as important to the line. Sure, if he scores in the SCF we probably win the Cup. I'm furious at him, and though i'm not one to complain about "clutchness" Nash did **** the bed. But there's a reason Giroux, Crosby, Malkin and Kopitar didn't light us up.
I'm still on the edge if I would trade him (depending on what free agents were available and what the package was, of course), but if i'm the GM i'm not desperately shopping him.
That being said, **** him for not scoring ONE GOAL in the SCF. No matter how good he is/will be at everything else, there'll always be a little of me that resents him for not potting ONE in a series with 3 OT's.

I was furious when we traded for him. I never liked him and his contract annoyed me to no end. But it is ridiculous to call him out and expect that he is going to solve all the Ranger's problems. I feel he has been scapegoated in the press.
I think the problems that have plagued him stem from a lack of able coaching. He doesn't click with his line.
