Rick Bowness To Take Leave of Absence

I dont care about old vs. new.

I want a coach who runs an aggressive, high tempo style all over the ice, who doesn't coach skill out of the players games, isn't afraid to make system or player changes quickly when something isn't working, and rewards performance with ice time.

We talk about egos determining usage decisions but I think most players would be fine with this philosophy if you made it crystal clear at the beginning of the year, and then treated everyone equally, and put your money where your mouth was.

It's quiet... too quiet...

I think you are spot on here

With our next 5 games played here at home, what's the likelihood that Bowness will back behind the bench?

Also, wasn't that roster shit?

I think it was pretty bad but the general opinion seems to be that he got the least out of it, especially in his 2nd/last year there.

I think it is telling that he went from there to a 1 year HC stint in the AHL and was never a HC again. To me that looks like the GM boys club collectively relegated him to the 'not HC material bin'. So they must not have liked what they saw of him with CBJ. Maybe similar to the way Noel was written off after being fired by Jets except that Arniel was younger so got to spend many more years as an assistant/associate coach.

I'm a little dubious but am willing to give him a shot, since it looks to have been decided already anyway. I would have a short leash though.

I'm with Surixon in preferring a much younger more progressive coach. But experience is a good thing and it is very much like 6'7. You can't teach it.

He was the victim of severe PDO. He got league worse goaltending and below average finishing.

His Blue Jackets had top 10 5 on 5 metrics.

I think it was just another case where crap goaltending sunk a team and a coach.

I really like the way the team is playing right now, the aggressiveness especially with the D. Still not a huge fan of some of the player utilization decisions but the 4th line getting over 10 minutes is a good start. That may simplly be due to the fact that they might be the most skilled 4th line we've had.

I'm wondering how much time the 4th line got in the 3rd when we had a good lead...

I'm looking for a new job, I can be the coach. I swear to God I'll let the board run everything by committee lines power play style you name it
I thought you just started a new job?

You can just go look up shift charts. Just took a quick peak on Natural Stats Trick and the 4th line looks to have had 6 shifts in the 3rd. That's pretty nice balance.

We can point out that Arniel isn't really changing anything that Bones had setup and that it is a small sample size but Jets are 5-1-2 under Arniel. They are mostly playing well and playing 60 50 minutes (a couple of slow starts). Gotta give credit where due. They are both playing well and winning under Scotty.

I think Jets have had a relatively easy schedule under Arniel. They have a couple of tougher opponents coming up. I'm interested in seeing what they can do against Dallas and NJD.

One thing I like about Arniel and this was true last year as well is he runs a more balanced bench then Bones. He's not as risk adverse later n games and is more trusting of his bench.

If Woodcroft gets canned I would pursue him as an associate. He might be exactly the sort of X and O's hockey geek that would compliment Arneil. I don't fault him in the slightest for what we are seeing in Edm. I like him. That being said, It's unlikely he'd take an assistant position right now as it would actually cost him money.
