I never understood why that restaurant shut down, it was packed every time I went there. We used to go to the one on Regent for the lunch buffet.

Smitty's
Brazen Hall
Pony Corral
9 years as a season ticket holder and had wings for the 1st time in the Exchange Lounge. They were pretty damn good, will definitely order again.
I remember loving the fried ice cream when I was a kid. Always blew my mind, "How can they fry ice cream, itll melt?!?!" Lol.I never understood why that restaurant shut down, it was packed every time I went there. We used to go to the one on Regent for the lunch buffet.
I've only tried Ichi Ban's sushi once - before a Jets game a couple of years ago. It was awful and expensive.I really like the Ichi Ban for sushi and Sake in Selkirk also has great sushi.
I went to the one at the corner of St. Mary's Road and Marion once as a kid.Your quote caught my post before the Grubees edit. Grubees was great. I used to ride my bike to Grubees on Pembina Hwy to grab a Grubee Burger. I think they shut down when I was like 14.

Fun fact: Grubees was owned by the late Hans Gruber - who later went on to fame as the mastermind of the Nakatomi Plaza robbery.
And later into hiding as Professor Snape......I went to the one at the corner of St. Mary's Road and Marion once as a kid.

Im surprised. Ive always had excellent food/service when there. I believe they have a sushi "happy hour" when its much cheaper.I've only tried Ichi Ban's sushi once - before a Jets game a couple of years ago. It was awful and expensive.
If you want some sushi before a Jets game, Izakaya Edokko on St. Mary behind the Library is very, very good.
Anyone eaten at the True North Square Hargrave Market or whatever it's called? I walked through before the Tampa game but didn't eat. The place was jumping.
I remember how amazing deep fried pizza pops from Woolco's cafeteria tasted 50 years ago... how's that for real old school?I'll go real old-school for ya, back when people my age were likely still kids...remember when the discount stores like K-Mart and Woolworths (and Gambles!) had their in-house cafeteria? For me, a hot dog at one of those joints was like fine dining when I was seven.
Fries and gravy downstairs in the Bay cafeteria was killer back in the day.I'll go real old-school for ya, back when people my age were likely still kids...remember when the discount stores like K-Mart and Woolworths (and Gambles!) had their in-house cafeteria? Its funny how certain things stick with you. I remember that was always a huge treat for us there, but mostly it was the amazement of this seemingly impossible thing. I watched a recipe video just now.......I suppose not that amazing after allI remember loving the fried ice cream when I was a kid. Always blew my mind, "How can they fry ice cream, itll melt?!?!" Lol.

Was just about to mention the Paddlewheel myself. My mom worked at the Bay during their year end as an accountant so we'd get the bill stamped and I think she got 10% back or something. But it was our go to back in the day when we were kids doing our Christmas shopping or when we'd come down to go on the north side of Portage to the video game parlors. I ate at the Paddle Wheel the last day it was open. Pretty much tasted the same as when I was a kid. Very nostalgic.Yes, I recall eating at one in Zellers.
I also went to the Paddlewheel restaurant at The Bay when I was a young Vulcan.

I remember the cafeteria at my junior high had fried pizza pops back in the day and they were freaking amazing! Must have been the original ones that the Faraci family(Winnipeg's own!) invented before Pillsbury bought them out and pizza pops turned into dogshit.I remember how amazing deep fried pizza pops from Woolco's cafeteria tasted 50 years ago... how's that for real old school?

That's it? I know someone who swears there's Worcester sauce in it.Shocking but true....and oh so good! I used to make it, lol! Canned cheese spread, black pepper and bread crumbs, under the broiler.

We also got the malted things from the basement. Can't remember the name of that little shop but those were real good as kids.
Do also recall eating at Woolco/K-Mart/Zellers though not often. My parents were very much opposed to going out to eat except on special occasions - most of the time I ate out was from my own money, saved from allowance, paper routes or other jobs. Raised during the depression the folks were and still behaved like it in the 60s and 70s.
Yes, I recall eating at one in Zellers.
Speaking of relics, I also went to the Paddlewheel restaurant at The Bay when I was a young Vulcan.
