On Kakko. What if Kakko never adjusts to the smaller ice surface. What if he is just a player that is good on the bigger ice surfaces

Starting to look that way. Has moments when he looks like Hossa, which is terrific, but they haven’t become more pronounced or more frequent. Kinda stagnant.

Lafy has moments but needs to be more aggressive and assertive. Maybe it looks like he isn’t engaged cause of his skating. He does hustle and play physical at times. On Kakko same issue although not physical but he does get involved. Needs to add the next gear.

Imagine one of them getting injured playing an AHL game, the fanbase would implode. Or they could not produce and further harm their confidence.

Nah, not worth it. Giving everyone else on the team a break but them would be such a scummy move imo. Resting up for the home stretch makes way more sense.

****ing Greco only passes to Brodzinski. I get being starstruck because you're playing with the Brodfather, but you also have Alexis Lafreniere on your line

It would make me wonder just what the Rangers are doing with their high draft picks. It'd be reasonable if Kakko busted, but Laf became at least a star player or vice versa. However, for both of them to look like they have - can't just be bad luck.

Both Laf and Kakko busting should be an organization changing moment. Complete overhaul from the president down.

I'll try anything at this point.

Kakko would probably put up more points with Panarin and Strome. But the Kreider, Zib, Kakko line is the Rangers shutdown 5v5 defensive line. Moving Kakko off that line hurts the team as well as Kakko's actual value as a good defensive player.

Granted, a good defensive forward is not what you want out of a top two pick, but it at least helps a contending team...contend. And you don't have to look far on this team to see that as far as top two picks go, things can be worse...

It would be the most NY Rangerish thing ever for them to FINALLY get top 2 draft picks--in back-to-back drafts no less--for the first time in modern NHL history, only to choose to develop them is a way completely counter to the way just about every other top pick has been developed (ie: force-fed minutes and PP time vs. the Rangers method of barely playing them at all), watch them bust, and then turn to those players and wonder what's wrong with them.

It's still early, and I hope this whole "slow development" approach actually pans out, but if it doesn't, all the heads should roll, because "slow development" had a "we're smarter than all of hockey history" vibe to it from the start.

Isn't Laf ineligible to get sent to the AHL? He's in his D+2 season, same as Will Cuylle.

People have to get over their draft positions and recognize they are currently not NHL level players. Send them down and let them find their games and get back to what they were drafted for. I wouldn't worry so much what it would do to their confidence or whatever because honestly how much worse can they get?

These kids are not good enough skaters to be impact NHLers. It’s really that simple. They may have plenty of skill bubbling under the surface (emphasis on “may”), but they simply don’t skate well enough to create enough space to display it.

They know it too, hence the lack of assertiveness and constant deference. It is very hard to play in a game that is moving two steps faster than you.
