I don't buy it. Those 3 years left in the KHL were plenty to let his stock rise and then trade. A huge asset in the bank ready to be used when the best opportunity arises.

"Bad attitude" and "prick" is copium for the masses. A lot of the great winners were pricks. MJ above all, was a prick.
Mich lives hockey and does it for his father
That's what I like to hear

Lane Hutson - David Reinbacher.
Kaiden Guhle - Logan Mailloux.
Arber Xhekaj - Justin Barron.
Add: Jordan Harris (can be easily tradeable), Adam Engstrom, William Trudeau and more.

All Habs fan should be very very high on that. Potentially to become one of the best D squad in the league.

I can almost guarantee that in a normal year, with consistent viewings and international play against his peers, all of this fantasizing about Michkov's generational talent would have been tempered by genuine critique. There are warts and limitations here that have nothing to do with geopolitics. If all we'd seen of Wright was his underage U18s and a handful of league games, he'd still be talked about as a franchise 1C.

Reinbacher fits the culture, fills a massive organizational need, will be accessible to our development staff, and has significant two-way upside. I'm happy with the pick and think we'll be looking back on this one as a good move.
I like Reinbacher. But for the Habs to win this draft, I suspect he'll need to be Nick Lidstrom.

Nah. Unless Michkov comes in and racks up 50 goal seasons like Mike Bossy, Redenbacher will be fine if he has a career like Ryan McDonaugh for example.

If Mich comes in and racks up 40 that will doom Rein

Michkov will rack up 50 goal seasons like MIke Bossy. Or at the very least we'll have a very good idea if it's the case by January. I remember the 2004 draft, it became obvious by that time that teams hit gold with Ovechkin and Malkin because of their first half season in Russia.

As a fan, seeing Marty Lapointe who used the Habs as a player to get his big Boston contract, Boston of all teams, and Vinny Lecavalier who at some point could have joined the Habs and freaked out and decided not to, on the podium representing Habs was not a proud moment.
The draft outcome made me feel that more cheated.

Well not much to do but wait and see. I suspect that if Michkov is the player that you suggest he is, it won't just be habs fans filled with regret. Even if Leo Carlsson becomes Kopitar 2.0 you still take Pavel Bure before him.

It was definitely weird how it all turned out, from dealing 31 and 37 for Newhook to drafting three goalies. But overall, count me as cautiously optimistic.

I don't mind the Reinbacher pick considering who was all available, including Michkov. I think he's gonna be a really good one. Michkov does have huge offensive upside, and I would have probably both more excited and nervous with us using our pick on him.

There were players on the board I would have preferred over Florian Xhekaj, such as Minnetian. Or at least, perhaps we could have picked Florian later?

I like the Fowler pick a lot. Once I saw the goalies starting to get picked early in the 2nd round, I was starting to wonder whether we'd have a chance to draft someone of Fowler's caliber at pick 69. It turns out we did.

It seems they took some good swings with Konyushkov, Mittelstadt, and Eriksson. It'll be very interesting to follow them next season.

The other players seem to be decent picks for where they were chosen, but I don't know much about them so I don't have a strong opinion one way or another yet.

Rumors are the Habs did the same with Florian.

Which only confirms that the Flyers were going to go all out to land the player had we convinced them that we’d pick him.

Brière even had the Flyers pundit Anthony Di Marco deliver bullshit to try and get everyone off the scent. This one’s going to sting a long time.

If they really believed Reinbacher was the best available, I could understand going with their guts.

But Kent Hughes straight up said his ceiling was "D2".

Come on. His CEILING, a #2 defenseman. Won't run a PP1.

With MICHKOV on board!

I take it if he wins a Norris it's just a lucky pick.
