problem with nyqvist return is there are just too many better forwards that will take a first. there is no way a goalie rental will get a 1st. teams who could afford it just dont need it (i dont see bob getting a first either. although his return if traded will be very different i would assume).
edit: afford = playoff team willing to trade their first.
I don't think there are "too many," mainly because Duchene/Stone/Panarin are atypical deadline acquisitions. Panarin may not get moved, but if he does, it may not be for a 1st+ but a top six roster player to compensate for his loss. And if he is moved for a 1st+, then Columbus might turn around and flip that 1st to someone else, which essentially just puts another 1st right back on the table.
Then you have Duchene and Stone, who could get moved to a team that has been allowed to negotiate an extension with them. If that happens, then the acquiring team isn't necessarily going to be a bona fide contender but could be a bubble team right now and/or one that is trending in the right direction such that its still an attractive team/market for them to re-sign in. That could open up their trade options to half the league - teams that wouldn't spend assets on any legit deadline UFAs otherwise.
TLDR - This year's cream of the crop is so atypical/costly that they might not be a comparable market for those seeking the usual UFA deadline upgrades.
Either way, I wouldn't expect Nyquist to get a 1st straight up (I don't think Howard gets a 1st whatsoever unless he goes in a package). Something like Nyquist + DET 2019 3rd for Contender's 1st + 5th.
