Agreed. He's been ejected 4 times in 22 NHL games and was suspended 4 games just last March.

He's not getting the message.
So am I right to understand that he’s been ejected/suspended for 16 games, over a grand total of 22 GP? While averaging less than 6 mins TOI?

If my calculations are correct, Rempe averages one game suspended for every 7.94 mins played.

So for every 60 mins played, he can be expected to be miss 7.56 games as a result of disciplinary action.

I propose we call this new metric REMPE’s per /60

Yes, the guy who drew 3 penalties in the same game he got suspended from can’t play hockey.

Hilarious hearing Devils fans talk about homerism when it comes to Rempe. Your team traded for a plug to deal with him because he rocked a few of your players last season. Your fans are spooked by him.
A lot of AHL players get called up and draw some penalties. Doesn't make them any good at hockey.

This guy will end up with a nurse feeding him mushy peas in a dementia home before I will. And I’m 65. Hope he learns to just play hockey in the interim.

Or I just watch the video and can come at it in a non-bias “rEmPe iD a gOoN oMg” perspective. If youre a serious person, youll watch the replay and see
1) rempe slows down
2) his elbow NEVER hits heiskanen’s head
3) his FOREARM hits his back
4) his skates DO NOT leave the ice before contact

Repeat offender
It's not even just that, it's a repeat offender on the same type of illegal play.

The DOPS has made it clear that there's a difference between a guy making 2 different types of suspension-worthy plays, and a guy that gets suspended for something, then comes back and does the exact same thing. It's evidence that he hasn't learned.

I'm all for physical play within the spirit of the game, because it's part of what makes the sport exciting, but when a player incurs so many misconducts or suspensions within such a limited number of games, it crosses a line into the unethical on both the part of the player and the organization that continues to give him ice time.

Accidents happen and lines are occasionally crossed when ultra-competitive, world-class athletes go 100% 82 times a year, but it's particularly egregious when the continual offender can't demonstrate the requisite skills that make 600+ other players employable at the highest level of play.

I'd argue that he should be given a probationary number of games within which any suspension would also incur a penalty to the organization, such a loss of draft picks. Else why not call up an ECHL goon and have him dive into McDavid's knees in the first round of the playoffs? The advantage is worth it for an organization, if you can just employ someone purely for the sake of injuring the competition.

Unnecessary to tack that onto the Rempe suspension. The NHL / Bettman already has the power to discipline teams engaging in that behavior without a preemptive Rempe warning.

I guess he's paid his AHL money while down?
More importantly, what happens if he's just never called up (when sent down)?

Good question, The CBA doesn’t clarify whether teams collect suspension payroll fines from players if they’re Loaned and not currently on the NHL roster.

- Rempe’s lost salary fine is $80k as a repeat offender. $820k NHL salary / 82 games * 8 game suspension.

- Rempe’s AHL salary is only $70k, less than the $80k fine.

There's also just an added element of stupidity to his play. The Rangers are up 1 goal against a good team in the third period (yes they ended up winning) but he does this and hands Dallas a 5 minute power play.

I don't care what kind of energy you bring... or what you do for the overall vibes in the locker room and in the stands... if you're going to do that and actually hurt your team's chances at winning no coach is going to play you.

The Rangers can send Rempe to the AHL and bounce him back and forth if they wish.

He won’t be eligible to play until he has missed 8 total NHL games under suspension while actually on the NHL roster.
Is he allowed to play in the AHL while suspended in the NHL?

My understanding is no, that the AHL “honors” NHL suspensions. But it’s been a long time since we’ve had a suspension case involving AHL loans to empirically confirm nothing has changed and my understanding is still accurate.

Makes sense.

So basically AHL will honour an NHL suspension, but in order for a game to count towards paying off your NHL suspension you need to be on the NHL roster

I hope it'S the case, or else the Rangers (or any team potentially in that situation) could just send him down when the Wolfpack (or any affiliate) is scheduled to play on a day where the NHL team is not scheduled, thus accelerating the suspension (by sending Rempe down on Dec.27th and Dec.31st, when the Wolfpack is scheduled, but having him up on the Dec28 and Dec30, where the Rangers are scheduled to play)

In this specific case the roster freeze comes into play for a portion of it

This young man has had a very trying rookie season, with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to the AHL and that leagues refusal to accept him. I guess it’s more than most 21 year olds could handle.
Are we supposed to feel bad for him? Lol he plays like a psycho who’s out there trying to scramble brains.

He had 8 goals total in Hartford last season. If he led the team in EV goals, I promise you that says more about Hartford than it does about Rempe.

I love the flourish some of you describe Rempe plays with. “Bulldozed everyone and blew by players” lol. He took a two foot pass and was already behind everyone. He managed to draw a few penalties, instead of incessantly taking them, and you guys make it sound like he split the atom.
Berard had 16 even strength goals for Hartford... So I'm not sure what Jovo is thinking.

Belzile and Othmann had 11 and Edstrom had 10.
