I miss 90s hockey... im sad goons are gone.

This guy is an absolute moron... everytime he steps on the ice he does intentional dangerous shit that doesn't even fit in the flow of the game.

When you lose me....

Rempe wouldn't last 10 games in the 90s NHL .. Fake ass goon.
I love the intensity of 90s hockey too. This crap wouldn't fly then though, he'd be put in the hospital by other goons. Goons carved out nice careers for themselves then, but even they had a code of honor.

Between Kreider and Rempe, the NYR has to be one of the most unlikeable franchise out there.

What a bunch of bitch ass rats

Sent Rempe's ass home for 10 games, minimum
tbh I kinda wanna play the rangers with rempe in the lineup. send him to the sheriff.

So the league is basically telling defensemen that if you go to retrieve a puck, all you have to do is turn your back to Matt Rempe because we're going to suspend him 5 games if he touches you.

That's exactly what they teach you NOT to do playing hockey. This sport is so f***ing soft now, smh.

I'm not saying it wasn't penalty worthy, but an in person hearing for that? Are you f***ing serious?

I think he’ll get 6 games. I dont think they can suspend him for much longer when the other guy didn’t get injured; it’d probably get reduced by an arbitrator

Boarding, but because of the personalities involved, he should get suspended. He didn't actually raise his elbow, but his elbow made contact with the head because he's so tall.

Nobody wants fringe NHL/good players taking out the game's best. Have zero sympathy for Rempe, even though it's not even close to the worst boarding I've seen.

Hes already been offered an in-person hearing. I can’t imagine he’ll get any less than 5 games, wouldn’t be shocked to see 10+. With his history he realistically probably deserves 15-20, but we know the DoP(e)S doesn’t actually care about the PS part of their name.
I think it's quite likely that it's 10 or more.

Patrick Burke of the DOPS said on a podcast recently that a big factor when it comes to suspensions is whether the incident is the same "type" of play as something that they've been disciplined for before, and how recent the incident is to the last one. (If one incident is a bad board and another is an elbow, they're not going to throw the book at a guy)

This is two blindside elbows to the head on a hit near the boards within a calendar year.

Lol, what?

Rempe didn't just touch Heiskanen, he tried to take his goddamn head off, because he's a psycopath, and absolutly must be punished for it.

And honestly I'd punish the Rangers too, for choosing to play such a lunatic player

Rempe is way overdue for a solid beating, for being such a human garbage bag

Even if we ignore Heiskanen turning his back when playing the puck, Rempe can't be driving through players' heads/necks. He needs to make contact lower or avoid the hit.

Heiskanen wasn’t retrieving a puck along the end wall though. This was a play along the side boards above the hash marks. These boards and glass don’t “give” as much. Huge difference absorbing a check between the end wall and side boards.
Clearly Rempe is a very awkward player. He made a bad and dangerous play. He’s getting a long, and deservedly so, suspension.

Heiskanen didn't turn his back on Rempe. Rempe saw his numbers all the way.

Are you suggesting players should face away from the boards if they want to clear a puck on the boards? I can see a few problems with that logic.

Rempe pinned Bichsel to the boards from behind legally a few times that game. I guess he’s just incapable of playing within the rules consistently. Might be too stupid, IDK

So the Rangers appeal any suspension so it is delayed until after he hurts some Hurricanes and Devils with cheap shots this weekend right?
That’s not how it works. Can’t play while suspension is under appeal. Appeals are more about getting lost money back.

I think a game misconduct is the right punishment this time. However, I wouldn't give a suspension.

Miro Heiskanen has a long history in Finnish hockey's SM-liiga of turning his back in checking situations so that the opponent hits his numbers, leading to a game penalty. In the NHL, this fact is probably not known, nor in disciplinary actions, but it's not the first time that Heiskanen causes a game penalty for a opposing team in this fashion.

It doesn't matter what Miro does. He's the one being hit in the neck/head by an elbow. It's not even like it was a split second hit. Rempe had all the time in the world to not hit Miro like that.
