Ref (TJ Luxmore) nearly slices Lundqvist's hand off (with bizarre positioning)

Refs/Linesman positioning really annoys me. It seems every game they are interfering with way too many plays. There has got to be a better way to go at it.

Did Lundqvist make a deal with the devil or something? Dude has had a ton of close calls and weird injuries the last two years.

Oh really?

This happened because the linesman sat on the boards instead of skating out of the way. It's not like he needed to hold the line, his partner came down to cover him and made the offside decision anyway.

This also happens all the time:

Wow it's almost like accidents happen.

Puck didn't touch ref. Panthers player had clear attempt at tucking it in. Puck was in tight and the goalie stick was there. Banked it off the post. Slid across goal line and stayed out. Not the best position to be in for the ref. But not his fault the puck didn't go in.

Having to shoot around the ref had no impact at all on the play. Right.

That ref has negative situational awareness. Why would you skate full speed AROUND the net, stand right inside the crease trying to find the puck, and hold onto the net. I wonder what was going on through his head... "Hmm, I can't see the puck, it might still be alive, better get a closer view by standing in the crease... o ****, it popped out and i'm in it's way, jump!"

No idea what he's doing in the NHL.

This is what makes this so bad. There will be blown or missed calls, but situational awareness is a must.

He's cost the panthers 4 goals in the past two games. Two goals scored by Detroit were a result of phantom penalties he called, took away one goal from the panthers with a quick whistle on a loose puck and now playing goalie for the rangers last night.

He certainly should not ref another NHL game this year.

Easily the worst year for officiating I've ever seen, and this just tops it.

I've spent the past 26 years of my life in ice rinks, playing, and watching. I have never in my life seen such bad positioning by a ref. And I'm talking even the 70 year old men who can't move farther than the neutral zone in either direction, reffing the 8 year olds.

This was beyond bad.

Did he ever get to offer an explanation as for why he was there?

This year has been the worst officiating by NHL refs I've seen in a long time. NFL replacement ref level... Unreal.

Player makes a mistake during a game:

"Oh he just had a bad game. He has his ups and downs."

Referee makes a mistake during a game:

"OMG FIRE THIS IDIOT. REFEREES ARE TERRIBLE, THEY'RE RUINING THE SPORT!"

Never change HF.

Linesman makes a mistake and injures player: nothing happens

Wideman accidently injures ref: 20 game suspension

Maybe people complain more about the refs because people don't pay to see them. They aren't the focus of the sport

Did the linesman intentionally cross check the player from behind in your little tale above?

Absurd analogy

Even more bizarre is Pierre McGuire saying on the radio this morning that the league's position is that the official was in the correct spot....

Fun Fact: by googling how to spell Pierre's last name i learned his first name is in fact Regis!
