Ref blatantly influences outcome of game.

Are you time traveling from 6 hours from now after the refs hand the Super Bowl to the Chiefs ?
I'm not planning on watching the game but my machine is available for rent if you want to go.
If you're interested you can come by and see it at Apt 4A 2311 North Los Robles Avenue, Pasadena, California

Why do people make these ridiculously titled threads? Alternative version “Calgary player takes penalty in overtime”.
It's the truth but it happens every night.

Yeah, the refs usually blatantly influence the outcomes of games by calling penalties, that's their job.
They influence almost every game with bad calls and ignoring penalties, If they called the games properly they are not influencing games, they are allowing for the proper result.

It’s a make up call for the cross check that resulted in a scoring chance for the flames. Check the clip at 1:18.

You know.. if an the interference call had been made earlier I wouldn't have a problem with it. It was clear interference. But this make up call garbage is bull shit. Make the call if it's deserved but don't look to make a call based on something that happened in the past. Refs shouldn't have the power to significantly alter the outcome of a game because they are trying try correct their previous mistake. ... Especially in OT. Put your whistle in your pocket.

Sometimes I miss the days before social media and the internet. “That call was sketchy, right? Oh well.”

End of discussion

Sketchy calls shouldn't be made in OT. Put away the whistle unless its something blatant. Can we agree on that to end the discussion?

That would make it worse IMO. That looked like a pretty clear dive.

Almost falls flat on his face from what would have been one of the weakest cross checking penalties I've seen in the last decade. He just took the exact same cross check five seconds before, and so did Weeger from Beniers, and it didn't phase either of them.

Just my opinion, but if you're gonna dive in the D zone for a penalty in OT, when the other team has the puck, you deserve to lose the game.

Can we all agree to have the refs weigh factors like time remaining, score, and previous calls that were made/not made when calling a penalty?

It's funny how everyone wants game management but then acts like it is the worst thing in the history of the world.

Since when has this been a legal play? The fact that he touches the puck is largely irrelevant.

I absolutely wouldn't agree with that. It's OT so rules go away now...or they go away somewhat, we'll only call the ones that are blatant....which of course isn't subjective at all right?

Its his job to get it right. its even more egregious that he got it wrong in OT.
Where did the ref get it wrong though? I get that this penalty wasn't the largest infraction you'll ever witness, but it's also not the most blatant bad call either that the thread title makes it out to be. Is there a different video that shows this to be a bad call?

People have pointed out that he knocks the puck away with his stick....which I don't think I see clearly in the video, but that's not the point anyway, what does that show? Here's what's hard to understand....if I'm standing behind a player....how do I take my right arm, reach around the guys' body on the right side and bring the stick around to knock the puck away on the left side without putting myself in danger of taking a holding penalty? What am I missing? Look, I already said it, it's a weaker call....but I'm not bothered by it, looks like it would easily fit the definition of holding.

Now what would bother me is if the ref lets a ton of stuff go all game where my team is getting hooked, held, etc. and then they call a soft one on my team in OT like that....I'd be super pissed an annoyed, but at the same time, the player puts himself at risk of a call.....be upset about it, but if you do something that meets the definition of a penalty, it's hard to complain too much.

I'll go back to the initial thought here....where did the ref get it wrong, why isn't it a penalty?

LOL think about how moronic that sounds.....it's his job to get it right.....but you only got it right using super slow mo.....tell me where does he have that availability?

Like I already suggested, doesn't matter if he touches the puck or not, if you are reaching around a guy from behind and wrapping your arm all the way around to try and get to a puck....you are at risk of taking a penalty. For what it's worth though, he absolutely did not touch the puck, he swing his stick around and knocked the guy's stick back, never touched the puck....so maybe they should have given him a double minor (holding and slashing)? :DD

no, the rule book is the book, the refs should call any penalty regardless of when or where it was.
And this is sort of what they started doing in 2005/06 and then slowly moved away from that, but the uncalled infractions haven't gone back to what they were in 80s/90/s though.

Problem is no matter what, people of the team getting penalized are going to bitch and moan. The refs could call everything by the book but unfortunately the book has some wiggle room for interpretation in a lot of rules… which most of the time the offending team will take offense to.
