Ref assist on leafs shorty.

Lets hear what Tampa and the Panthers think of it who are fighting for the Top seed in the Atlantic...I really hope for the league, and our comedian in stripes, Mr. Sutherland, in general it doesnt come down to this point or regulation win......:laugh:

And i am sure the AVS also wanted to make at final push for at least home-ice in Round 1.......And they still are in a fight with the Wild for that 3rd place in the Central...

It is what it is.

But i dont like this "downplay" at this point of the season......
Tampa scored 2 goals against us in game 7 off of blatant missed penalties and eliminated us from playoffs, you all told us officiating doesn't matter and we need to stop whining about officials influencing the outcome of a game.

Florida scored the game winning goal that eliminated us the year after off a blatant missed penalty, guess what we were told ? Refs don't matter.

This is a regular season game and you guys are crying about a puck hitting the ref that led to the game winning game.

Fact is, we were eliminated from playoffs 2 years in a row because of blatant missed penalties and were told to shutup and stop crying.

I dunno wtf Sutherland was doing at that part of the ice, but just hilarious to see the double standard.

No, they are part of the rink. Same if a puck hits a stanchion.

As i say, other sports don't see it that way. The ref is a moving, unpredictable part of the rink off which a bad bounce can win or lose you the game - case in question. It's not like hitting a seam in the boards, it just seems easier and way less controversial to just blow play dead, but that's just me.

There's a lot of chaos in hockey. The puck will sometimes hit a ref or a linesman. Plus you're really inviting players to shoot at them just to get a whistle.

Where was Kelly Sutherland even going? Why cross the ice in that situation? Excuse my lack of knowledge but there was no icing or calls to make on a PK...

Just feels like he made a dumb call and tilted the game to the Leafs who outside of being good at clearing out rebounds were getting hemmed in for most of the game.

This has happened in b2b games for the Avs and i've seen it in other games. I feel they should explore blowing the play dead if they interfere too much. That was a nothing play if not for that. Same in the last game if Furlatt tried to get out of the way, which most officials do.

I’m a Leafs fan I saw it. Bad penalty call. I’d still be salty if the Leafs gave up the game winner in that matter.
Not saying it’s unfair or that these things don’t happen.
Leafs fans seem to think they deserved this win. The Avs had the Leafs stuck in their zone most of the game. Basically doubled up shots. Only thing the Leafs did well is have 3-4 too many men changes where they touched the puck and stopped rushes, and clear the puck out to keep rebounds to a minimum.

Avs were 100% the better team.

Points in October are worth the same as points in April.

Was Sutherland tested after the game?

I mean, the more you watch this shit, the more you laugh.......

Unbelievable..... That "move" made him a meme-legend and secured his place in every NHL-Highlight-show to come....

If you've got the time to aim at the ref, you've got the time to ice it.
Yup exactly. Also if it's obvious that the player aimed at the ref that player should get a penalty just like delay of game etc. This rule would be very easy to implement. The league wouldn't skip a beat.

I don’t think the gap was as wide as you are making it seem either.
The Avs had a lot more shots sure but many of them came from low danger areas and more of Toronto’s shots came from close to the net.
So a lot of that comes from the style both teams want to play.

The Avs definitely hemmed the Leafs more than I’d like and overall probably had the edge in the game but it really could have gone either way.
My take on it based mostly of memory without digging in to it was the Avs were clearly better in the first period, the second was close to even with an edge to the Avs because of how the closed out the period and the Leafs we probably the better team in the 3rd

High Danger Chances were even in the game and the Leafs actually had the expected goals advantage (3.84 vs. 3.32).

Colorado slightly - moderately outplayed the Leafs at 5v5, but the Leafs were significantly better on special teams and 4v4.

Just because Colorado had significantly more shots in the game, doesnt mean it was better quality.

"Only thing the Leafs did well isclesr the puck out to keep rebounds to a minimum". So one of the most important jobs of the defense? It's also something the Leafs have specifically targeted this year for improvement (big part of Tanev and Carlo's games) as it has cost them playoff games in the past.

Pretty similar to advanced stats (Leafs are the For and the rows are period 1/2/3/Total) other than the first period which was a low-danger period across the board. This is for all conditions.

Even if advanced stats aren't everything, I think they can at least back up that the game was fairly close and neither team dominated the other. Came down to goalies (both played well) and a few lucky/bad bounces.
