Ref assist on leafs shorty.

Sadly I can't even tell if people are joking about ref helping Toronto or not. Speaks to the main boards.

End of the day, it wasn't off the ref and in. That was a dirty snipe by Lorentz.

From bad calls to actively influencing the play on ice albeit unintentionally. Reffing really leaves a lot to be desired. I could see the value of instant replay with an official in the booth. On ice call rules unless video evidence conclusively overturns the on ice call. Limited # of challenges. Not sure how I feel about penalties for challenges being overruled.

Where was Kelly Sutherland even going? Why cross the ice in that situation? Excuse my lack of knowledge but there was no icing or calls to make on a PK...

Just feels like he made a dumb call and tilted the game to the Leafs who outside of being good at clearing out rebounds were getting hemmed in for most of the game.

He wasn't crossing the ice, he was the back ref, regularly within the dots....to get a better advantage spot, when it was turned over, he back pedaled, and assumed the clearing was coming out high and hard, which, you don't want to get hit with, so he was scrambling, then to make it worse, toe picked....on a change up.

Absolutely hilarious to watch, even funnier to know exactly what's going through his mind....

In football, if the ball hits the referee then play is blown dead and possession is given to the possessing team. Seems a simple solution to a rare problem.
It’s rare in football because the rules and possession dynamics in football are way different from the NHL.

They’ll never do anything which could potentially incentivize firing a puck at a ref in order to get a stoppage

As i said before, if you have the time to aim up and hit the referee, you can just as easily ice it.
