Cfl 2025

Interesting article regarding Kordell Jackson, EE sophomore defensive back, who had a great rookie season in 2024.

The casual CFL fan probably won't recognize the name but he had an outstanding rookie year that was up there with Rankin and Anderson. He's returning amidst tough competition this season though.

I sure like that new defensive line with Ceresna, Smith, Brinkman and Barlow. All 4 could be all-stars. Shades of the wrecking crew back in the 1970's. Smith might be the best Canuck we've had in a very long time.

I'm optimistic for the first time in a while.

Suggestion for thread contributors (if I may). Pick a player and profile him for us. That way we get to know the players a little better. Makes the chat line more fun.

I don’t really think what he said was wrong, as I don’t think there are any superstar players currently playing in the league, but it’s one of those things you should probably just say to yourself and not make it public.

The truth hurts sometimes, I guess. The old timers in this thread have been commenting for years about the drop off in talent around the league. Him saying it isn’t revealing any kind of secret. Not smart of Hervey to say this publicly but this is what you get with him. It seems just as petty to me for him to be reprimanded publicly for it as well. Probably should have been handled quietly to not draw even more attention to it. I never heard his comments until they piped up.

Its not great that the pushback to it is the CFLPA particularly. This feud of course started with Hervey really having a fervent want to say and suggest things about Lewis, and while I don't disagree with that content Hervey went out of his way to take the snipes and it was in the same week that Hervey announced we wouldn't have those type of players anymore. Lewis ears burned and then Hervey removed all doubt referencing him directly. Inappropriate.

Hervey now and in the past has been guilty of letting his inner ear thoughts become vocal, and he loves doing that. Loose lips.

Hervey may manage to salvage this as an us against rest theme as he has before but he's a manager very adept at saying the wrong things. In his position thats not good. Nor did he learn from the Reilly instances apparently. Or those before that.

Man, not even a game played and there has to be controversy.

This as well is the easily available article that is readable by all and doesn't require X or insta or any bs.

Hervey even in quotes saying I'm not going to make a big deal about it "Lewis" but proceeds to do so again, making several comments regarding the player in question. he says he's gonna drop it, and doesn't. i didn't like Lewis here but this is conduct unbecoming from Hervey whilst in professional capacity.

This is particularly offputting from hervey: "He (Lewis) should be happy he's somewhere else and thats it"

Does Ed think at all that he's been fired multiple times? Is self reflection there? In respect of his own career path its a very odd thing to say about another professional.

Its plain adversarial and without a moments reflection.

If you read the replies in some of these social media posts you can understand why some people are upset. They list some random player on their favorite team as a superstar, which is the big fish/small pond syndrome. Can tell that they don’t watch any NFL football. I mean supposedly the best player in the CFL couldn’t even make it as a clipboard holder in the NFL and we’re supposed to call him a superstar?

For those who have followed Hervey over the years this is no surprise.

He's been in public feuds before and it looks like another round of charm school is in order.

He's right about the talent level dropping off ---particularly at the QB position-- but this could have been handled in quieter fashion.

Lewis isn't much better with his public comments. I've never heard Gretzky or McDavid describe themselves as superstars so I don't know why this guy would.

Well, as they say, all publicity is good publicity so maybe this sells a few tickets this season.

The CFL is rarely in the news and is not discussed too much as witnessed by how many posts you find in this thread.

The drop off in talent in this league hasn’t been limited to the players. Management is just as bad. Look at what we’ve gone through here since Campbell retired. They’ve all been nightmares.

Just looking at Hervey though, this is a guy who was a hot head as a player. As a scout he misrepresented himself to recruits at times telling them he was the teams head scout, other times telling them he was the GM. That anybody considered hiring him again after what happened with the Reilly contract in BC shows there really is nobody else available.

You get controversy with Hervey. Hopefully you get enough success on the field to be able to stomach it. We’ll see, I guess. This is what the CFL is now.

We know I'm not very susceptible to buying it, and if anything I'm duly remembering the past and time being a flat circle.

This is Hervey in 2013 making the same mistakes and saying the same "we're bringing back he Eskimo way" thing. he did for a bit but seems to veer into ditch quickly enough.

So that when Hervey is being reprimanded in 2025 in respect of saying things about players its far from his first instance. I doubt he even remembers the 2013 admonishing. Seems like it just doesn't register. Ironically Hervey back then talked up "A policy of not kicking dirt on anyone" Not sure if sarcastic. Thing with Hervey is do what he says but he won't... ;)

I wouldn’t have brought him back nor would I have brought back Jones either. I spent a lot of time on here arguing against both but they were guys the fans wanted. Now I’ve lost most of my interest and really don’t care anymore. Hard to break free completely of a 50 year hobby though.

I got fooled a bit on the Jones rehire but again it was what could get worse thinking. Just it all seems odd. Like Hollywood bankrupt thinking. lets just bring back all the sequels, all the past productions etc. New world seems increasingly bereft of new ideas. I'm sure there exists some great untapped GM's and Coaches etc somewhere like they did when a once proud org found them in the 70's. But now theres such a want for retreading the names and people in the league and just keep rotating them like manure.

Dunk baited him and brought the topic up. Hervey was trying to move on..... Sadly Hervey ( who is right ) took the bait. Hes got to learn to not take the bait and 2. choose his words better. Now he's back in edmonton he's going to have a massive target on his back from the media.

Are people in the league not allowed to have opinions anymore?

Saavy comments by Hervey. No superstars means less "superstar" money, even if you're one in your own mind and no one else's.

Love the "us (evil empire) againt toe world (league) mentality. No more pity party's for Edmonton. Just jealousy and hatred.
