RedWings 2023 Development Camp

Think Rögle lockerroom will use English as a language. Danielson could go to replace Kasper...

Or Tappara Tampere next year. Great places to go. Tappara just signed former GR Griffin Carter Camper for next season. He could be a great mentor for Danielson.

FEL would be easier league that SHL, which has turned much stronger in last 2 off-seasons thanks to more TV-money.
There is a big, raging debate within the US Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT). Some fans only want guys who play in Europe on the team, because the European leagues are considered the best in the world. They absolutely loathe any player who still plays in Major League Soccer (MLS). The men's head coach came from MLS and the Euro-centric fans absolutely despise him.

I don't want to go full on Euro, that is silly, but I don't like the idea of having our last great shot at a high-end center spend a year in junior if he can go play in the second best league in the world.

It's more a thought experiment than anything else, mostly just thinking outside the box a bit.

Import limits are a swis
It is 3-on-3 hockey. I wouldn't get too stiff over it.

Not sure who wants to burn an import slot on Danielson. European clubs are businesses too at the end of the day.
Import limits are a Swiss league thing

Either way, he isn’t too good for the dub as a d+1.

Art and Ken definitely talked a lot about him. He might be a guy that gets stashed and ends up being a bottom 6 player in like 5 years. Not gonna hold my breath but you never know.

He has one more season of junior. WHy would you make him go over, adjust to a new culture, language, rink size and try to get into a pro league where they dont necessarily hand out minutes to young guys?

The WHL is completely fine place for him to play for a season, focus on his nutrition and gaining some muscle instead of worrying about all kinds of stuff he would have to over there.
Going to Europe certainly didn't seem to hurt Matthews. There is a small sample size of kids going over for a year or two, but I don't know of any kids imploding from the experience.

Couldn't find the rosters with numbers.

it can be 3 on 3 or 5 on 5, I am literally talking about just the shot.

That has nothing to do with it. if it was 4-on-5 and he got a jump to go down the wing and snaps that shot into top shelf like that, it translates to 5-on-5, 4-on-3, etc. It was essentially a 2-on-1 in the situation. He looked for the passing lane, saw he should take the shot instead and wired it.
I'll tell you what, you have every right to be excited for the kid. For me personally, there is nothing he could do in a intra-squad 3 vs. 3 scrimmage to make me like him more than I already do. I consider his OHL season impressive enough.

I see what you are saying; however, I am not talking about his full game on a 3on3. I am talking specifically on one shot that could have happened in any 2-on-1 break regardless if it is a nhl game, ahl game, etc.

Again, not talking about how he played the entire game, but when you go on a 2-on-1, it doesn't matter how many other players on the ice or what the pretext is for the game. IDC what goalie was in the net. The hole to shoot in was quite small and he was able to accurately shoot it in.

I know these are message boards but not EVERYTHING needs to have an opposition, Jesus. Guy had a nice shot. Done. That's it.

Look, someone just answer this for me… is Alexandre Doucet Tyler Johnson 2.0 or not?!

Probably not TJ, but maybe Palat...? He's not a great skater by any stretch. But his hands are great, and he seems pretty aware of what's happening on the ice. I could see him anywhere from a surprise middle 6 guy that gets you 20-25 goals a year to just another Riley Barber or a Chris Terry.

Few quick observations:

Danielson’s pre-draft hype was warranted. It was all on display today. The IQ, hands, body control, vision, shot, movement without the puck, two way game. He’ll be special for years to come.

ASP was almost equally impressive. Obviously this format suits his game, but he was in full control out there. He could arguably be our PP1 QB today if not for the Ghost signing and another year of development for Mo. Every shift he was creating chances for himself and others. A couple inches taller and he easily goes top 5 in this draft.

Augustine was lights out. I don’t think he let a puck in the net, and I recall countless times guys having odd-man breaks, 2 on 0’s, backdoor one-timers, etc and he was in perfect position. Liking this kid more and more.

Gibson also surprised me and helped me cope with the 2nd round d-man selection. He showed much more offensive instinct and upside than I had read about. Scored a couple times.

Cleveland looked about as advertised. Huge, rangy, kinda awkward d-man without a single offensive bone in his body. I can now see why they took him, but that doesn’t make me hate the positional value/ lack of upside pick that this was, any less.

Lombardi is nasty. He doesn’t need much more seasoning to be a future top 6 forward in the league. Sure, the format fits his game, but he was doing the same sh*t in Flint. You can tell his size and strength has improved, and he’s bodying guys off along the boards, which yields more confidence to me that he’ll be an NHLer, moreso than the wiggle and skill he brings. Love his interviews too, the kid is motivated.

Mazur may not have the same ceiling of the previously mentioned, but he’ll be a middle 6 scoring/grinding forward that wears teams down in the playoffs.

Kasper looked like a guy who hadn’t played any competitive hockey recently and was pressing a little too hard at times to make things happen, but you still see why Steve took him. Speed, grit, shot all showed in flashes

Cossa night and day from last dev camp to today. Looking more confident and composed. Trending up.

Others who impressed were Buium, Ali, Savage, Doucet, Gylander. Obviously these guys have much work ahead in their journey to don a Wings uniform, but they are trending up.

Would’ve loved to see the likes of Buchelnikov out there. Also not sure what happened or why the Dower-Nilsson brothers missed the 3-on-3 portion, but I was looking forward to seeing Noah play especially, as this format was Taylor made for him.

Yeah, but tell me we won't have to wait another 5 years to see it in Detroit! ;)

I mean, for some of them to be full-time NHLers... Yeah.

Following hockey prospects is a grind.

Football is a lot more fun. It's only 5 months between when I watch a guy get drafted to the time he's on an NFL field on my TV. Bing, bang, boom.

ASP has impressed me the most (so far, im halfway through the recording). That kid is silky smooth, he looks fantastic out there with that much space to operate.
and yet dan cleary in his press conference said that he has more than 2 years before he can make it to the nhl.

hope he's wrong.
