What isn't going to be? Lotta Vancouver fans going to be upset when they see an actual deal made.
The ideas of Barzel etc. aren't going to happen.
Might end up just having to keep Pettersson is the more realistic option.

It's quite brutal dor Detroit as well, not because those players wouldn't be replaceable, but because of the sheer amount of players needed to be replaced with a trade like that. The only possible way for Detroit to even consider something as big as that, would be during the off season.
edit: and I also believe that due to the amount of contracts and players coming in, it would give similar fits to Buffalo as well. All in all, I doubt it would work for anyone.

Because they are trying to get better, not worse. They need to move young players for more established ones. This team is not far from contending if the assets are used right (present season aside).
as a devils fan i am not affected, by what vancouver will do with pettersson (or miller). due to cap space neither is a target for new jersey.
if the canucks are willing to accept cozens as the main piece or part of the return for pettersson, i can't see why he wouldn't end up in buffalo. buffalo has a surplus of futures and young roster players, which they would love to consolidate into a player like pettersson. detroit gets only into the deal, if the red wings are willing to part with seider. this is the piece both vancouver and buffalo would covet. take seider of the table (and i assume he is not available) and detroit has no place in three team proposal.

In what universe would Seider be used to get a 3rd line center who with luck could return to form and become a 2nd line center?

elias pettersson is a 3rd line center? he would immediately be the wings first line center.
you are aware my reply is in regards to a three team proposal, which would send pettersson to detroit in return for cozens and talbot?

They aren't getting a player from any team like Seider, I just said they're not getting close to fair value and you immediately mention one of the Red Wings best young players.
Red Wings might not even do that deal straight up looking at the cost of both players.
I'm a fan throwing splat on the wall, who cares what I think. I'm telling you now the return for either player(Miller/Pettersson) will be underwhelming.
Best thing teams can do is wait till summer when Pettersson no trade is about to kick in and get him for pennies on dollars. There's no "strength" here in Vancouver corner other than he's a good player.

If all Vancouver wants for Petterson is Cozens and Talbot, then I have zero doubts that Detroit couldn't beat that offer without including Seider. Like said, currently Cozens is a third liner with serious questionmarks if he returns to form. On top of that what is guaranteed is that he will have a big price tag no matter what. Detroit would dangle any of their forwards aside from Larkin and Raymond, before including Seider. Are you seriously trying to claim that the rather high risk of Cozens not ever regaining his form, is so small that Kasper and a 1st wouldn't be more enticing (as an example)?

They won't get Seider, Detroit has no reason to trade him.
But they could very well get Power/Byram + Cozens/Kulich from us, for example.
i never said detroit should trade seider for pettersson. i just said they won't get into a three way trade between buffalo and vancouver involving cozens and pettersson without him being on the table. whatever detroit is willing to surrender buffalo can replace with their own assets. what buffalo can't offer is a rhd like seider because they are looking for one themselves.

Maybe... if they could you'd of made the deal already I think, but who knows, maybe Vancouver think they can get more.
I think it's wise to move on from Cozens from Buffalo's point of view, I'm not sure anyone values him as much as Buffalo does though and... Idk if I'd be interested in breaking up those defenders if I was a Buffalo fan... Outside looking in.

Well, either they just don't want to trade Pettersson or Buffalo isn't offering anything for him at all.
I don't know why we would just move on from Cozens, he has his own upside to his game. I think he would be a beast on the wing of Pettersson or other just a decent top 6 C.

I'd say you do it now or at the TDL, because he does still have upside/value. Calgary is rumored to be interested, and Weegar/Anderson would be good gets.
Cozens will be almost un-tradeable next year if he doubles back again on a season like this with the term/cost. Moving him now gives Buffalo's future coach, etc, flexibility, imo.
Having him on your team leaves the same problems/needs... (top two center, RHD). I think the same money on Cozens can get you two equal wingers or a better center even in the open market. It's just an opinion from the outside, maybe I'm crazy. People all the time dogg Larkin and don't watch and realize maybe what he is and isn't to the Red Wings. I can't sit here and act like I've watched multiple Sabres games this year.

Well, they don't just scout, there are a lot of games, almost our GM goes to watch the games. The same thing happened before the trade of Mittelstadt for Byram.
If you plan on being stuck in an endless rebuild and need that to get to the cap floor, it might even be a good thing!

You can find much better options in the UFA market. Compher comes to mind....
Yzerman should be fired if he trades for that contract! Let Buffalo eat that contract for the next 6 years. They are the dummies who signed it.
