Red Dead Redemption 2 - Reder and Deader

Yeah my interest in online is non existent at the moment which sucks because for the first time in a long time I have 2 friends who both own the game and we were going to play it online. Being a 35 year old, its very rare I get to play games online with my real friends.

The economy sounds terrible, $500 for a gun and you earn $3 per mission.

Wouldn't you expect them to patch in a "Switzerland" option, like GTA5, where people can't kill/hurt you and vice versa? I would expect they want to see how bad griefing is by default, then a neutral toggle would be easy to patch in.

If they dont, I'll be doing no online. If they do, I'll be buying PSN for the year so I can rob banks & trains with randoms (or people here).
Why do you call it "Switzerland option"? lol. I know what you mean, I've just never heard it called that before.

Red Dead online is exactly why i wasn't buying it. I thought GTA V was very lackluster compared to previous entries and letting the game out to dry so you can pump out an assload of crappy microtransaction loaded DLC for your online mode.

Honestly with how slow paced RDR 2 looks compared to 1 i'll probably won't ever bother. Add rockstar to the list.
:O that's wild, I thought GTA 5 was actually the best of any of them. San Andreas is a close 2nd, but GTA 5 towers over GTA 3, Vice City, and GTA 4, for my money.

Edit: I'm confused........ Did you not even BUY the game??
The game is easily worth the $60 tag for single player, so online is just a bonus in my mind.

That being said, I just find it odd that it takes a few months down the road for the online aspect of a game to "get good." It's just a weird mindset for me.
Yeah, I see it as a bonus as well. Play it if you want, don't play it if you don't like it, but I've already gotten wellll over my money's worth for this game.

Also, I don't think it's that people expect this to take a few months to get going, GTA 5 was Rockstar's first foray into online gaming and it just took them that long to get the kinks worked out.

I'm so damn tired of these companies foregoing actual development of enjoyable products in favor of how to nickle and dime you the most.

I have no problem with DLC for the most part. Hell Rockstar of all companies were actually one of the best at putting out solid extra content. GTA IV's DLC story packs were actually better than the main game. Undead Nightmare was also pretty enjoyable. Other companies also put out decent stuff. Most of Nintendo's DLC has been good to great, Bethesda, etc.

Now though? **** wasting time on meaningful content when we can just get idiots to buy heaps of junk! **** you Rockstar.
In what world can anyone say that Rockstar "forewent actual development" in regards to this game? lol. The attention to detail in this RDR2 is staggering. How can you say "f*** wasting time on meaningful content" when they spent like 7 years making this damn game? lol

Rockstar could have never even uttered the word "Online" and the single player itself was well worth the purchase cost.... And the online is 100% free.

I am super bummed, I was on YouTube and and there was a video in the suggested with the biggest spoiler on the video image/text. I couldn’t avoid YouTube like that, so there wasn’t much I could do. Oh well :(.

How are people enjoying the online so far? Is it pretty polished and fun, or rough around the edges and needing a lot of work? How does it compare to GTA Online (in terms of enjoyment, things to do, scope, etc.)?

I'm still plugging along in the storyline so I haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Yeah online looks terrible but I have no desire, nor do I feel any right to complain about the game as a package because of it. I view RDO the same way I view card packs in EA sports games; its a completely separate mode from what I paid for and from what I have been used to playing my whole life (I.e. full priced game equals dozens of hours of unencumbered single player enjoyment) so it being so absurdly exploitative doesn’t really bother me.

I mean, it seems shady as shit and I don’t think it’s right or good that they’ve set their game up like this, but I’m not the type to concern myself with these sorts of modes regardless so I’m not missing out on anything.

Hopefully I can finish the single player story this weekend.

I do have to ask and its not RDR specifically but games in general, this "its a beta" stuff. Has the definition of beta changed nowadays? It seems like beta pretty much means a "soft open" in todays age.

Anyone else find the guy who referenced Bonnie in RDR? Caught me off guard. It’s not Story related in any way to this one.

Yeah I think I do recall that. It was fairly early as its been awhile since that happened. And yeah, I was thinking I might run into her.

It's pretty much like GTA Online. Played with a buddy last night and enjoyed it.

I honestly sometimes hate the recommended section in youtube.

Got minor game of thrones episode spoilers due to that section.

Anyways, on the game itself. Still on chapter 4. Taking me forever to finish it due to my work schedule and i just don't feel like playing video games everyday due to my job.

This game can be so ****ing frustrating at times. I hunted the Legendary Moose, packed it up, and decided to do the Balkan scientist second stranger mission (the one with the lightning). I finish it and head towards Annesburg. Well, a cougar comes at me out of nowhere which is no big deal because I have a headshot lined up in the reticle and right when I am about to shoot, my goddamn horse buckles me because the piece of **** is scared and knocks me off. Right when I get up the cougar attacks me and I die losing my legendary moose. Thank God I decided to save right after I got it, but this sort of stuff is so frustrating that I have no idea how Rockstar tested these sequences out and thought they should just leave it. I didn't even have a freakin' chance to shoot the damn thing.

Also having to wait for shops to open, especially the trapper in Saint Denis is so effin' dumb as well. It's a freakin' game, not real life.

You know you can camp and sleep to make time go by right?

DOnt all shops have a ‘wait for morning’ option show up if they’re closed? I know I’ve used it 3 or 4 times now.

Also, any legendary animal you kill & take, if you die, automatically show up at the trapper for crafting.

While annoying, I like the horse acting like an actual horse/animal. Makes me more attached to them.

I only played an hour of it before going back to single player. It was ok... I guess. The way things are it's pretty much garbage though. Why? The way they are trying to force people to put down real money to buy stuff by strangling your ability to make any actual money and charging about 10 times the price for items when compared to single player. There seem to be a limited amount of things to do it seems at the moment, I guess owing to the beta-y-ness of it.

FYI if you did or lose your legendary pelt or something it just automatically goes to the trapper

So you lose the ability to sell it to the trapper to make like 20 bucks but that’s it

I lost a perfect cougar pelt when I died once which sucked more than losing the legendary pelts cause those are gone for good

For future reference, if you harvest a legendary pelt and lose it in a situation like what you mentioned, the pelt automatically gets sent to the trapper. I agree about the horse though. The horse bucking you off happens way too quickly, and then it just ends up getting you murdered by a cougar, lol.

Yeah, I don't see the point of calling this a beta. Like you said, this is a soft open.

I was very struck by this song when it plays. It comes at such a huge point in the story given everything that happens right before the track plays and the point where Arthur and the gang are at the time.

Added on to the fact that, aside from a few orchestral pieces, the game really doesn't include many musical numbers to that point, especially not anything with the gravity of this tune. What a great piece of music.

Got my perfect cougar pelt again

Pro-tip: if you're riding North of Van Horn area, keep your rifle on hand. The cougars will come out of nowhere sometimes and if you have your rifle handy you can get a quick kill with a perfect pelt if you're quick enough
