Yes we should, he fills a really important role as our most pure "Center" type of player, toolsy, two-way, and play-driving. He's like diet-diet-diet Crosby, and we dont really have anyone to replace him. Our C depth sucks balls and even the C's that we do have, even Pettersson on his A game, don't really fill that "Pure C" role like he does.

Don't hate the player, but voted no. Don't want to just run this group back, and think we need the AAV and roster spot to find upgrades for our top 6.

This is assuming his next contract starts with a $3.xx.

Developed into an elite PKer, always in good position at both ends of the ice, plays center, can score 15-20 goals, can pass the puck

I’d want to sign him if he takes a reasonable deal but I’m afraid he has priced himself out
Sometimes stability is huge for role players. He's been with five different teams across two different countries since 2020. Not sure if he has family but if he values living in Vancouver, a steady role, a hockey market etc... could see him biting at something like 3.75M x 4 years.

As a newly-minted 20 scorer, Suter has probably priced himself out of Vancouver. The Canucks have had Suter on a bargain contract of $1.5m over the past two seasons.

He's earned a contract of at least $3m - $4m from somebody. I just don't think that it'll be the Canucks.

Pretty much exactly what you want from a 3rd liner. Excellent defensively and has the smarts to both chip in offensively and not look out of place higher in the lineup in a pinch.

If he was right-handed and better at face-offs I'd throw some good money at him. Still want him back but it has to be for 3C money.

I think most of us would love to have him back - just at what term and price. I think any chance of another bargain basement contract has left the station with how he has played, but he's such a valuable Swiss Army Knife player for us.

There was also scuttlebutt before the deadline that he wasn't interested in signing an extension - not sure if that meant "with us", or if he just wanted to wait until the end of the season to maximize his value.

As the title of the thread suggests.

Personally, I’d re sign him if we can clear a contract or two (Demko, Joshua, Hoglander, Blueger).

I would def. be in favor if we can get 3.5 - 3.7 or less ideally for 3-4 years max. Out of those 4 you mentioned I would vote for Demko and Blueger to be moved unless we can get some good assets for Hogs - he's really been playing well lately and Joshua is a prime rebound candidate whose skill set we need - we need to get a bit more grit up front.......getting rid of him is the exact opposite of that. Demko I can see us moving off of and saving 2-3 mill on and Blueger is pretty meh and can be replaced by one of the Abby guys.

If his next contract's AAV starts with a 3, the Canucks would be fools not to sign that.

That said, I was probably the highest person of anyone on Suter, and advocated signing him all throughout the summer of 2023. He's been even better than expected - reliable depth scoring + elite defensive impacts + elite PKing, all combined with his trademark versatility.

Because he is smallish and not particularly fast or physical, I still think his league-wide perception is lower than his true on-ice value (which is good for re-signing him).

He's never had a ton of security with NHL contracts, so maybe something like $3.5-$4M with some term could do it.

Love Suter, but the guy is also running a 19% EV SH% this year and is going to get paid for it.

The team already has five players who should be in the bottom six signed to real money (Joshua, Blueger, Hoglander, O’Connor, Sherwood) and realistically they probably already need Hoglander’s money if they want to add more than one top 6 forward. Plus ideally they go cheap on some depth to add impact at the top end.

Hard to see a world where this is the player the team should be blowing its budget on.

MS hated him. Said he was soft, did nothing particularly well.
The 5C take was ludicrous back then and looks like one of the worst takes ever on this board.

Suter's been exactly as advertised - a middle six forward with a history of playing center and is now playing a huge role at center for us.

MS: "Suter is not even a 4C in the NHL - he's a 5C"

Your reading comprehension is still terrible.

I said he was a utility winger who served as the team's 5th C option - which is literally *exactly* how he was used in 23-24. This was not a difficult thing to understand, then or now, and your inability to grasp what I was saying makes you look bad.

Also, weren't you banned? Did the board crash somehow let you back in?

Yes let’s trade our best penalty killer forward. That is getting buried at 5 on 5, but still has 22 points all at even strength, on a great contract. Yes that is the contract we need to clear.

I'll do 3x$3.25M (Joshua money). He's not big and fast but his versatility including ability to play C makes him a step above the Heinen type players.
