RD Troy Stecher (2012 undrafted; 2016 signed, VAN)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Here's raw footage of Stecher's entire game versus Edmonton, if you want to see what this guy is all about. Pardon the glitch at 1:51 of the first video, which knocked out a big defensive play made on McDavid - the replay at 2:20 is fine.

Thanks. Just watched everything. He's just so great positionally, and so smart with the puck. Kid makes the right plays and is so composed looking out there. He can make a great first pass as well. Honestly, I don't think his height limits him too much like it does other players. He knows how to use his body to shield guys to the outside and create space for himself. I really like his skating as well. He has definitely surprised me with his defensive ability, as we all knew the offensive ability was there, and is his strength. The fact he is so good positionally gives me hope that he could actually turn into a first pairing guy if everything goes right. Really exciting player from what I've seen thanks to your UND highlights and his first two games in the league.

Honestly, he's been our best d-man in his two games.

He's going to be a solid NHLer, there isn't any doubt in my mind. In fact, it looks like he already is one. The guy can play.

Watched the most recent game against the Oilers.

Came away very impressed with Stecher. Looks silky smooth. Should be a good one.

Stecher is at the very least better than Sbisa and Larsen at this point. On merit, he should be in the lineup full time.

The only reason Sbisa should be in the lineup is to accrue enough games for the expansion requirement. After he hits it, there is no reason why he should touch the ice again.

Imagine the future for the blueline if that awful Forsling-Clendening trade hadn't been made:

Edler 30
Tanev 26
Gudbranson 24
Hutton 23
Stecher 22
Forsling 20
Juolevi 18

Even without Forsling in the mix, it's looking okay.

Whoa, hold it there cowboy. Tanev, Hutton, and Stecher are solid (and I'm saying this as an Oilers fan) but what I saw from the Penticton tourney (ECHL quality this year) is Juolevi is at least 2+ years away. He was even less impressive than Oliver Kylington (barf) at last year's tourney which featured a much higher quality of players.

Stecher is a gem though.

I used the word "future" for a reason.

And I'm fine with what Juolevi showed by 18-year-old D standards in preseason. The intelligence and skills are there. He needs to work on his physical strength and gain experience.
