Cherry with a nice bit on him during World Cup game.

Looked quite good offensively, but tempering expectations until he plays against a proper NHL line-up. Could still be more Yannick Weber than Spurgeon.

Grapes also loved Kevin Bieksa, even though he could never pronounce his name...always called him Bieska....so he has a potentially new favorite Canuck in Stecher? Cool.

One of the things I noticed about him is how animated he is with his fakes. The fake slapshot that he had on Rodin's goal is a good example of it. That takes a lot of commitment to the action and is not an easy thing to learn to recover from to immediately create a play, really useful skill. Looks like he could be a pretty dynamic player.

I was just going to say that I re-watched his highlights and it felt like he totally undressed someone on half of the rushes and all of his scoring plays. His dekes are great and the Canucks haven't had anyone like that on the point in a long time. All of his fakes lead to plays.

He's way smoother than Weber on the point. I'd think right now the bigger question is how effect will he be against NHL competition in his own zone being only 5'10. At 190lbs he should be pretty stocky though.

Why poor mans? He looks and moves extremely similar

IMO isn't near electric... but having said that, Ghost wasn't as electric when he first came to camp as he is now haha

I don't like his size.. that's my only issue.. but then again other small dmen have excelled... They said he measured in at 5'8 at camp(heard them say that during game)

If anything, Stecher was incredibly ostentatious in his debut. He was rushing the puck, deking players, creating chances, and put on a dazzling display of skill.

He was also very gritty in his own end, challenging players against the boards and making sure he makes a body check.

Troy is chock full of intangibles like tenacity, truculence, grit, compete, drive, perseverance, and handsomeness. Kid is going to be an absolute star and he's gonna bring the cup home to Vancouver this year, book it.

Gostisbehere was the much more highly regarded prospect and was a much more dominant player at the NCAA level.

Gostisbehere does things like Stecher just at a much higher level and against NHL competition.

Hell, Ghost was on a gold medal winning WJC team, NCAA National Champion and starred for U-23 for this World Cup. Don't take it as an insult that I said Stecher is a poor mans version, Ghost is just a really high end offensive dman at the NHL level.

Similar style games from what it seems, but one just has a better tool and skill set.

Looks like he could be a third pairing PP specialist at worst.

Good signing.

Don't like seeing people get ahead of themselves.

Pretty sure Stecher himself has squashed the info about him being 5'8 and I believe in an interview (could have been with 1040) said he doesn't know where that info is coming from. He's 5'10/5'11 and quite stocky already.

No doubt he has impressed everyone so far, but really? Ghost comparisons already and granted saviour status? come on..

I've said it since he was signed, if he can round out his defensive game and show that he is able to handle NHL forwards he will be a good player in this league. His offensive instincts are highly impressive, he competes hard, good outlet pass, and isn't a liability in his own zone. I think for his own chance of success, it would be really useful to play for a good Utica team this season and get used to playing in the pros. His showings in the preseason might force the coaching staff and managements hand, forcing them to keep him in the NHL this season like Hutton did. He showed up with the attitude that he is here to impress and make the NHL squad and he certainly has put his best foot forwards.

Very exciting to see to say the least, but let's not get ahead of ourselves now children, m'kay.

Jealous of the Canucks for signing him. Would have fit like a glove on the Oilers blue line. Can't see why he doesn't make Vancouver's opening lineup with the preseason he's had.
