As others have pointed out, this is incorrect.

I believe the AHL will be the best spot for him, his SHL team is not in a good position atm and the Marlies are poised for a big year. Liljegren can also acclimate to the Leafs' system and the small ice at the same time.

Will make him ready to jump right into the lineup one year from now.

The AHLs got you brainwashed man, keep drinking that KoolAid

How long are typical shifts in the SHL? Is the trend towards shorter shifts happening over there as well?

Getting Liljegren into a high-pace system where he only has time to make one play and get off could go a long way towards shaping up his decision making.

It is NHL or SHL, nothing else.

And it is time for NHL to pay up if they gonna keep taking talents early on. Pay atleast the value of the ELC as compensation to the club losing their player.

People should at least try and educate on some of this stuff before they hit the submit button

#1 No, it's not NHL or SHL. AHL is an option. OHL is as well but he's not going there.

#2 NHL teams pay teams for the players they draft through the individual transfer agreements.

This was posted in the Leafs forum by another poster, but I thought it was worth posting here as well. Lou Lam was interviewed by Sirius XM NHL Radio and one of the question was regarding Liljegren. His response is interesting, because besides his skating, the other attribute he describes as outstanding is his hockey sense, which is something that some on here have continually tried to point out as his major flaw.

This is pretty high praise from Lou.

Indeed that is huge praise coming from Lou Lam. I'll take his word over any internet expert.

I hope Leaf fans understand why he was available at #17 now, the concerns about his game that people brought up (who've actually seen him play) were as clear as day in tonight's game. His defensive IQ/decision making is weak and he's afraid to initiate body contact. Defensively he was absolutely putrid tonight.

On 1 play he didn't retrieve the puck in the corner because he was too scared to take a hit.. instead he let the opposing team's player get to it first.

His mobility and skills with the puck, however, were equally obvious. Not a good game for him defensively though, it has to be said.

He looked the most willing to initiate body contact of any Swedish defender, to me, in the U18's and the WJSS. It's actually one of the more overlooked aspects of his game.

He didn't have a good game tonight but let's not over analyze 1 exhibition game and jump to huge conclusions- "Oh this is why he dropped" and spin it into either extreme.

Sergachev had a underwhelming preseason game against the Leafs last year as well and no one really thinks much of it now.

I watched one period only.

He looked awful, one massive give away in the slot directly leading to a goal.

Does this mean he is bad, of course not still high on him

It was a pretty bad game for any Leafs fan to evaluate anyone though tbh.

Lily got burnt a couple times for sure. He absolutely needs work on his defensive and systematic game, especially his decision making when he's being pressured and I have no doubt he will be given the opportunity to work on those short comings.

Very few Leafs fans think of this guy as a straight to NHL guy, he needs work. Honestly our prospect pool isn't so great at this point because of recent high end immediate graduates that we can't believe we have and that's fine.

Some Habs looked really good tonight, Mete, Audette what a shot. Habs goalie was pretty good too.

Agreed. They're about as useful as the "scouting" (re: hype job) reports doled out all summer by Leafs fans who'd never seen him play prior to this game.

Yes they are both equally dumb. Which is why it makes no sense lol People get annoyed at people pumping a prospects tires over a 30 seconds tweet so they come in and call him a bust over a prospect tourny game....and around and around we go.

Exactly. Funny to see Leafs fans calling that poster out when they've been hyping Liljegren for months after the draft despite him not playing any games. How is this any different? If you can hype him on 0 games, why can't posters critique him after 1 game? It's equally silly.

He played a few games in the summer wjc showcase though which is more than one game, but both sides are too small samples to take anything from it.

All prospects have bad games. It should prove however that the hype on this kid needs to be brought down a little.

Easy to see tonight why so many teams passed up on the kid, just brutal

he was picked in the same slot as connor a couple years back.

easy to see why he was passed over by just as many teams after his god awful world championships then disaster NHL season where many peg fans had in in the calder race

some of the comments on here after 1 rookie game by an 18 year old dman are beyond ridiculous.

bad game. yup. game, singular. get a grip people. how about we look back at these comments after the season for a hearty laugh?

After effects of mono. We all know he'll be in the Hockey Hall of Fame in the next few years.

His stock has been falling in people's eyes for a straight year now. One game doesn't change anything, but it does confirm that maybe some of the more grounded scouting reports about him had some merit.

Way too aggressive in the D-zone on some coverages.

He chased a couple guys behind the net which is pretty amateur stuff.

Babcock would have a heart attack if he did that in a game.
He'll get him in line though.

One game doesn't change much but dude needs to get some hockey IQ. Some of those pinches...

Have you followed Erik Karlsson's defensive growth from the days of his draft till now? He was horrendous defensively. Poor positioning, soft play, undersized. The team gave him an opportunity to grow through his mistakes and look at what he is now. He's a celebrated offensive dynamo. Sometimes you live through the mistakes because the payoff is just that great. Timothy is 20x the defender right now than Karlsson was at that age. He's got the same offensive potential. I don't think you're going to find many Leaf fans or management complaining about his boneheaded plays. Move along.

Zero IQ. Saw a lot of alarming red flags even w the very fundamental skill of transitioning from backwards to forward skating.

Looks like the scouts knew what they were doing after all passing yp on timmy
