Sanderson plays a lot more like Heiskanen. They separate the forwards from the puck very similarly. Sanderson has also had more offensive rushes and impressive bursts on offense than Drysdale thus far. Drysdale plays a steady solid, high IQ 2 way game like Fowler. He'll be a good mentor for him.

Both will be top pairing defenders.

I know there might be some bias coming from your posts but 2 of the top 10 scouts in Bob Mackenzie's final list had Sanderson 3rd (ironically could be Ottawa and Anaheim) no one had Drysdale that high. That alone means your posts are dead wrong. The Leaf fans post above is hilarious, lol.
I’m pretty sure the ducks had sanderson as 3rd

either way it doesn’t matter much, people are arguing over projections of 2 potential good dmen .... plenty of time for either to develop and become better than the other.

I will say drysdale has to play a bit more conservative along side Byram.... not sure who sanderson has been playing with but I imagine they arnt as aggressive as a byram

there are a ton of things to like about sanderson and a ton of potential for him to be best dmen in the class.

As a Sens fan, I think Drysdale has looked great.

It`s funny, but their roles have somewhat reversed as Sanderson has been the more aggressive offensive guy with the occasional puck loss with an riskier play, where as Drysdale has just been Mr Smooth and steady. I think both are excellent signs for each prospect to be honest. Dysdale has lots of offence he hasn`t shown here given he`s complimenting Byram as noted, where as Sanderson has been showing he will move forward with the puck in a heart beat. I think any of us would be happier with either of them and none of that has changed in the last week with their play. I also think the idea of who will be better or is better is a complete unknown at this point. The idea people are saying one or the other is clearly better is basically a sign you`re a prospect tracking neophyte.

Byron is playing like an irresponsible, selfish idiot, which is crazy because that's no at all who he is. It's almost like he is going on for personal, glory rather than playing within the team. Weird, because he looked perfect in the first two scrimmages at the .Canadian camp.

Drysdale is coping with the situation he has been handed with aplomb. I know he can add offense, but it is impressive how good he is defensively. His speed gives him a " get out of jail free" card when he gets caught up the ice, as it allows him to get back in time to negate the play.

“Byron” had one bad period. He’s been using his teammates very well ever since the first period of the tournament. Time for people to get over his two turnovers or at least acknowledge that he’s been a total rock for all but two shifts in this tournament.

Drysdale is a stud. His lateral movement reminds me Klingberg. He has the ability to take the puck and rule the ice every time he touches it but he makes the mature decision of moving it when that’s the smarter option which I love.

Sometimes i hate reading the prospect boards during the world juniors.... just a constant pissing match.

Both are great dmen... different stylistically but that pairing works pretty well... and is the best pairing in the tournament imo.

Activating is not the same as knowing what to do with the puck in the offensive zone and having to make a quick decision. I saw a play the other night where USA had finally gotten to some loose pucks and had Russia on the defensive and Sanderson panicd and shot the puck into a wall of defenders and it killed the possession.

I feel like my assessment of him has been pretty fair so far. I'm not saying the offense wont come I'm saying it's not there right now

Drysdale is playing with Byram who thinks he's a forward he is literally playing exactly how he should be

that's the thing though, the way he's activating its clear he understands how a defenceman can make himself dangerous offensively. and idk using a blocked shot is a weak example, it's common even for the most skilled d, they expressly try to shoot through screens as those are the most dangerous shots. but be fair I don't know the exact play you're talking about so it very well could have been awful.

I think the offence creation mentality and ability is already there, it's just the execution he lacks.

I see Duncan Keith and Scott neidermayer when I watch him (high praise, I know). Anyone else?

Maybe as his absolute ceiling.

Closer to Cam Fowler then either of them. Cam before they coached out his willingness/ability to rush the puck into the offensive zone.

Which is not a bad thing. If a RHD Cam is his floor then that would be amazing.

Yes, I meant at his ceiling. I actually don’t see as much Cam. I think Drysdale hockey iq is higher on both ends of the ice.

Both players are just incredible. Touringy supposedly wants Byram to play agressive and take chances while Drysdale was told to stay back a bit. Not sure I agree with that strategy, but they are both exceptional and they are showing it. Really can't go wrong with either, so I have no idea why people have to dump on one to prop the other.

Drysdale and Sanderson have played 2 games each since they were drafted, at a level (wjc) they aren't used to playing. I'm a big drysdale fan, but you absolutely can't decide who is ahead of the other after 2 games.

Well if you don't count Sanderson's games with UND before the WJC .. you'd be correct
