I don’t doubt Hughes can get value for him as he has done before. He’s obviously very good at driving up the market for his players. I don’t know how he does that, but every year there’s a must have player on the canadiens!

I think some of those players are good (Lehkonen) and I think some are bad (Chiarot)

Would Hughes get value for him? Probably if he wants to. Does that make Savard a good player that will help a team win a cup? I don’t believe so, no.
Charoot was not bad with Montreal. I believe he was misused by Florida.

Mark Spector argues that it is too high.

"In his column for The Athletic: LeBrun wrote that the Montreal Canadiens aren’t committed to trading rearguard David Savard but that doesn’t mean they won’t do so. However, they’ve set a certain bar that interested clubs must reach with their trade offers.

Savard, 33, is signed through next season with a cap hit of $3.5 million. The Canadiens could wait until the offseason to move him or next year’s deadline. LeBrun thinks it could take a first-round pick, a young player with a value equivalent to a first-rounder, or multiple picks with a combined value equivalent to a first to get him.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: A very high bar indeed. It appears that they set that price to discourage clubs from pursuing him."

I have to agree with Spec. He's untouchable. Question for MTL fans: what are their future plans for him?

They don't need to move him. They clearly like his presence in the room and with the young players enough that the only way they'll move him is for someone to meet their price - no matter how high.

I don't think they re-sign him in July 2025, but it may depend on how fast the RHD prospects come along.

Friedman just mentioned David Savard is one of the names being linked to the Leafs. To go along with Nick Jensen as well

If Treliving wasn't willing to give a 1st for Tanev, I don't see it for Savard either, so I don't know if deal gets made. Even though Savard isn't a rental

That's the thing though Savard isn't a rental so he might be willing to give up that pick.

I like the player, I always have, I wanted him when he went to Tampa but that was a couple years ago.

I'd try to find another way.

I’d rather attach the Jets 1st to Squirrely Dan and go for a top prospect, receiving team can then flip that pick for another big piece.

Savard for in nicely with Edmonton as 2nd pairing right D. Ceci would need to come back, but Oilers won't part with their first pick. Kills trade

The last time Savard was on a contender, he played 14 minutes a night and no PK. He's got no business being in a cup threat's top four.

Neither does Ceci, but that's not the point. Savard isn't what we're looking for at all.

It's not a future plans thing. He is a good veteran, has already won a cup and is happy to be playing for his childhood team. He is mentoring our young dmen many of them have talked about how he is having a positive impact on them.

Habs probably retain on Savard. Give another team a mid round pick to retain on him also. Savard at 900k next two years has high trade value.

The thing is I’m not sure the extra year for Savard is that attractive.

He theoretically could be a decent fit for a playoff run and “playoff style hockey” I could buy that I suppose if GMs believe they need whatever element he brings

But having to lock in a roster spot for Savard for a full 82 game regular season is not appealing IMO

Hedman/McDonagh/Cernak/Sergachev vs Bouchard/Ekholm/Nurse/Ceci

Which defense core do you think is easier to crack from these contenders? I agree that swapping Ceci for Savard doesn't make sense for the Oilers, but you can stop pretending that Savard is bad because he's not.
