My view on him is completely different. If there's anything I wouldn't question it would be his defensive game and effort level.

I'd be more concerned about his offensive game. He's not the most creative player with the puck on his stick and while he's a good skater, he ends up on the outside a lot.

ASP is mainly a good possession D-man. He doesn't give many pucks away, his gap control is very good and his breakout passes are excellent. I'd be surprised if he ever plays on a top PP-unit in the NHL though.

The commentator in this video is kind of annoying but he's not far off base in his analysis of these two.

I watched ASP a lot this year (mostly on accident when tuning into Frolunda, Rogle or Orebro games) and his defensive workrate left me cringing most of the time. But when he's got the puck on his stick he comes alive.

I agree after this tournament it’s Reinbacher or ASP for the Canucks. Both will be off the table after pick 11 and also both could be gone by then, that would leave a great forward prospect then.
I think it’s fair to say the Canucks will, and should target one of them with their pick. The concern with the Canucks is obviously size, so they might not prefer ASP. Even though he’s clearly a top-end prospect. It would be really hard NOT to get worn down in a playoff series if you have 3 smaller dmen playing so many minutes. Obviously Quinn is special and keeps himself out of trouble but it would be really tough with ASP, Quinn and Hronek, playing big minutes in a 7 game series.

Arizona is the one team who I see possibly taking him in the Top 10. Outside chance Detroit, even though Yzerman seems to love his big dmen in drafts. It would be the best fit for him though. Surrounded by a bunch of big boys who can skate too.

That said , I think he’ll be there for the Canucks, but agree.. he’s off the board by Arizona’s second 1st rounder. What’s that? 12th or 13th? He won’t be available long.

Is he the best defenseman in draft or is it Reinbacher? Definitely curious to see who drafts him.

its mixed, those that dont like Reinbacher tend to like ASP. There is a school that believes you dont draft a defenseman that do not have a #1 ceiling top10, esp this draft when its at least 15 deep. ASP has that ceiling, but could also fizzle out, Reinbacher definitely a higher floor. Button for instance ranked Reinbacher 26, ASP 10? Dobber similar Rein 16, ASP 10. Eliteprospects Rein 12, ASP 14. Consentino/SN Rein 9, ASP 14. I think the consolidated rankings will have ASP higher.

Reinbacher is more what NHL GMs like annd look for imo. He can shut down the cycle, make quick passes, chip in offensively, maintain gaps.

I think ASP is the guy who could be something special. More risk more reward. Lots of flaws but lots of wow type plays.

My guess is Reinbacher goes first but it’s hard to say for sure.

You can't ever judge a 17 year olds defensive game when playing SHL hockey. They all suck, to various degrees, for very obvious reasons. It's all about making projections.

Fun to watch. I like these offensive minded Ds.

Hate a D should play D view of things. A offensive minded D should be a lot less in the D zone, and create a lot more offence. And thus be as important and many times more important, if the team is low on firepower. A offensive D fight fire with fire, and defensive D fight fire with water. The best combo is to have a "fight fire with fire firefighter" With a "fight fire with water firefighter".
Hope ASP hits his ceiling.

What’s ASP’s ceiling though? Is he already close to his ceiling or does he still have lots of runway in front of him? If he’s close already then he’s not a good pick top 15. If he’s got lots of runway still then his ceiling could be amazing and he should be in the top 10.

I dont know were he should go in the draft. He need more mass, and read some plays better in the D zone. But if a team feel they can afford to take a chance the reward could be great. He should be a bit away from his ceiling , If he builds more muscles and become a little taller, who knows how good he can be.

Am I nuts for getting Adam Fox vibes off this kid? He seems to have that uncanny ability to look people off and to create space when basically standing still.
Yeah, his play in the defensive zone really reminds me of Fox. He has those same kind of subtle brilliant moments of evading forecheckers or distributing the puck with little to no space.
