I wouldn't trust the Blackhawks at all with developing a young D-man. This is the same group of people that thought it was a good idea to have Kevin Korchinski in the NHL.

Last year, Korchinski had to either play in a league he outgrew or in the NHL. Neither were good options.

Hawks have done a good job so far developing their young d.

Well Vlasic and Del Mastro look fantastic. So good and bad and I guess.

I think it's somewhat predictable that they would do better being 21/22 when they started in the NHL. Why teams ignore that basic fact, just because a guy is a high 1st rounder, is beyond me.

Yeah I don't buy it. Korchinski was a very good WHL D but never completed his dominance there. He still had issues to work on at that level.

Way to paint with the broad brush there. You’re obviously not well educated on the subject.

Allan, Del Mastro, Crevier, Rinzel, Kaiser, Phillips, and Vlasic have all been handled very well. All were brought along slowly and left to develop. With Levshunov, Hawks are looking quite well set at D, Korchinski notwithstanding. Korchinski has been doing better in the AHL this season, and will likely spend more time there in the future. Young guy will get plenty of time to grow into the NHL.

What are you talking about, keep track of your own comments... you said because Korchinski then Levshunov will also be developed poorly. Other guys pointed out and you say "well yeah, they were developed well", so why the focus on Korchinski? Hawks kept Levshunov down all season, so if the worry is about a systemic over-rushing of D Prospects that doesn't apply even if you have reached the conclusion that one Defenseman, Korchinski, had his promising NHL Future derailed by incompetent Hawks brass for rushing him too soon.

You're right I did paint with too broad of a brush - but you got to my point actually that the successful group was brought along slowly. That is the concern here.

It's really just Korchinski who was rushed, but he's the closest comparable to Levshunov as a very raw kid who was drafted very high. And that has me not exactly trusting the Hawks brass on this one.

They didn't keep Levshunov down all season if they are calling him up now, because it is still his D+1 season.

He had upside but was very very raw as a draft pick, not the kind of guy who just needed five months in the AHL and we could then say "see we did it, we waited and developed him slowly". Developing him slowly means taking years in the AHL, not months.

He's almost certainly not sticking up here. He missed the preseason due to injury, so he has almost zero idea of how high the pace of play is here. Hawks are giving him a cup of coffee now so he can get an idea of what he needs to work on.

Hawks likely sign Sam Rinzel in a few weeks and give him a few games, so they are giving Lev some games now instead of having 2/3rds of their RHDs being guys with zero previous NHL experience in a few weeks.

Yes, I agree that the current Blackhawks management team has on the whole done a very good job developing defensemen. Korchinski was the outlier. Levshunov is being given a glimpse of the NHL. He is definitely deserving.

NHL debut. 3 shots on goal. 2 blocks. Nearly 21 minutes of ice time. He started the game paired with Alec Martinez, but AM left half way through the first due to taking a shot to the hand, forcing the Hawks to play with 5 D (4 of which were guys 23 years or younger), including 19yo Levshunov in his first NHL game.

Thought he looked really good. Just one game. But didn’t look nearly as raw or “deer in headlights” as I was expecting. His athleticism and mobility is impressive as advertised and definitely going to be high-end even at the NHL level. He looks a different breed than a guy like Korchinski thrown in last year at the same the even if they are both tall and skate well and got game time as teens. I don’t think at this point we need to try and link their styles or development paths. There’s no comparison for me.

He really looked comfortable after midway through the 1st period. His skating and passing are very good. He did not look out of place and had a very good 1st game. His post game comments show his gregarious personality too.
