I like the Carlo add, Laughton I'm meh on but he's cheap salary wise. Don't think he's the fit they needed, but obviously prices were high.

Like any trade deadline moves where you give up futures, it depends on what we do in the playoffs. I like both players and I like that they both have term, but it was a lot to pay. Seemed like that for everyone, it seems.

I gave it a B in the moment, but it's really how these two guys and we play down the stretch and into the playoffs.

The trades by themselves are around a B for me (Carlo a low A, Laughton a high C to low B,) but as a whole I give him a low A.

1. Addressed both big needs with a significant move.
2. Got retention without giving up too much extra.
3. Got some low picks.
4. Made an honest run at the biggest guy available (Rantanen).
5. Didn't pay for rentals.

I would have liked to see him swap Jarnkrok or Kampf for a better 4th line playoff performer, but I can also see the value in a 4th line with both Jarnkrok and Kampf. Though they're overpaid for what they bring they're pretty good defensively and can fill in with injuries. The 4th line might finally have a bit of an identity now with Lorentz and Holmberg rotating.

Although I'm happy to see Dewar and Timmins gone, Tre does lose some point for paying a 3rd for Dewar last year to only get a 5th back while also trading Timmins.

A-/B+. "Having to give in order to get" seems fairly appropriate here. The two acquisitions should prove to be worthwhile, yet they weren't without a cost attached. Hoping that those tomorrows will continue to have the optimism of today (because this is an improved team right now and beyond some, due to Carlo and Laughton not being rentals).

Honestly i can see something like

Knies-Matthews-Domi
Pacioretty/robertson/ holmberg-Tavares-Marner/ Nylander
Mcmann- Laughton-Nylander/Marner
lorentz-Kampf-Jarnkrok

pretty good complementary group

Mccabe-Tanev
Rielly-Carlo
Oel-Benoit/Myers

it's easily best D group leaf had last 20 and really start to look like a stanley cup D.

2 pretty solid goalie

Its the best team leafs ever had

I think speedy McMann should stay with Willy, and Robo or his replacement goes with Marner.

But who gets which center. Could try and recreate JT Marner magic and get JT sniping, but Marner and Laughton could make a good shutdown line, maybe even with Jarn, and both juggling pk duties together.

get Nylander playing with mcmann and laughton, 2 player working extremely hard... Maybe that will impact him by taking less shift off and following his teammate attittude

Only miss for me was Kunin was dealt for a 4th.

Just because he was dealt for that doesn't mean he was available to everyone for that price.

This "he only went for X so we could have had him for that price" argument is so nonsensical.

Knies - Matthews - Marner
McMann - Tavares - Nylander
Domi - Laughton - Jarnkrok
Lorentz - Kampf - Holmberg

Or

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Jarnkrok - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Laughton - Domi
Lorentz - Kampf - Holmberg

Or

Knies - Matthews - Marner
Laughton - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Domi - Robertson
Lorentz - Kampf - Jarnkrok

Or

Knies - Matthews - Domi
McMann - Tavares - Marner
Jarnkrok - Laughton - Nylander
Lorentz - Kampf - Holmberg

The issue for me is the way Matthews is playing - if he’s not healthy, I’m still not sure we beat Tampa or Florida in round 1.

What does that have to do with Tre's performance? The price for any of the big fish was sky high and not worth paying.

Knies - Matthews - Marner
XXX - Tavares - Nylander
McMann - Laughton - Domi
Jarnkrok - Kampf - Robertson

Rielly - Carlo
McCabe - Tanev
OEL - XXX

We are missing our 2LW and 3RHD.

The more I think about it, the kore upset I am at us not dealing FLR 2025 2nd and Ben Danford.

Those assets should have gotten us the LW add + Bottom Pairinf D-add we needed

3RHD will be Benoit or Myers but both arent really that good. Benoit has fallen hard and should not be a regular NHLer

2LW will likely be Nylander and Domi moves to top 6 which hurts bottom 6 and overall depth.

I just cant see why we didnt get the 2LW.

I had said this team needed C, RHD and a LW entering the playoffs. You got 2 of the three and had assets to get the last one as well. Should have been aggresive and gotten a deal done for a good Lw for L2

Yeah because its just that simple eh? For f*** sakes..................

Definitely and A. He addressed our two biggest needs. Paid the high prices others did, but got more value by getting players with term and salary retention.

A.

There's nothing Treliving dealt away that we're likely ever going to miss and he filled two big needs, each with term (even if only a year on Laughton) and retention (15% is not nothing).

Still not much more optimistic about this team's chances for all the reasons that many of us have beaten to death by now, but also now that both Florida teams got stronger as well.

AM had the nerve to put his GM on this spot by asking for help, then went out there with the team he leads and threw up a stinker against Vegas after blowing a great start against a bottom feeder.

Well Auston, Treliving did his part now go the f***k out there and for once, do yours. No excuses, just win.

It is that simple.

The assets are there, the need is there. Go out and make an attempt at a trade with willing parties

We did overpay for Laughton to fill a need for a player with term on a team that was selling.

We could have done the same for 2LW looking to target one of the names from the below listing:

Rakell
Schwartz
Donato
Geekie
Garland
Tippett
Bobby Brink
Simon Holmstrom
Zetterlund (got dealt for a 2nd and a meh prospect to Sens)

The above were some options on teams which could entertain adding youth asset pieces like Danford, 2025 2nd, Robertson, they could all play LW and fit a top 6 spot next to 88 and 91.

We were not linked to adding another top 6/9 winger who can play LW which was an issue

If you are going all in then holding onto Danford a 1st whose value will likely decline the longer hes a leaf is not a smart move.
