haven't watched much avs over past 2 decades BUT years ago during DRW dark days, i followed leafs pretty closely (babcock and half of keefe era).

Marner always stood out as a great talent, who didnt play up to his potential in the playoffs but some1 who could drive his own line from the wing.

With all that said it seemed like their was a consensus rantanen > marner.

while i half expect for marner to choke in the playoffs again (maybe not this year BC contract year), would be hard to imagine him struggling as mightily as rantanen is now if he was traded.

Marner is one trade away from having a good cry after each game.

This is just nonsense though Carolina has 184 goals in 56 games, and the Avs have 186 in 57 games, so Carolina is the more offensive team, well until the trade when the Avs got the best player. Face it, Rantanen is not on the same level as Mac and there is nothing wrong with that, paying him more than Mac isn't wrong, but it does seem like a waste of money...
Now go look at the split in scoring for the two teams. One will be way more top heavy than the other.

I'm hoping this tournament gets him going for the Canes tbh.
He's just as likely to get hurt, that's my problem with these mid season tournaments, I found it positive that Necas wasn't involved given the Avs lack of depth. Don't need any more injuries.
