But you are also choosing to focus on a minority of posters and hot takes, when the vast majority of folks in this thread which I've read, on all sides of the fandom, have been saying that, despite how it has gone so far, Rantanen will undoubtedly not remain on such a cold-streak.

It also seems fair if others may be pointing out usage and systemic differences which may affect how this plays out going forward.

And the majority of Avs fans on the HF-Avs forum were also not on a ledge about the trade either. Most, while saddened by the loss of a beloved player, and not being able to make it work, majority also said they did not want him to be paid the $13-14M it was being reported was now the new ask, and also did not want the Avs to let him walk to UFA and get nothing. There were a few vocal naysayers immediately for sure, but outside of the surprise, it seemed many more were happy CMac was proactive and had the guts to make a tough decision, and get a top-player, and a very solid package for a pending UFA. Most of us had seen Rantanen's trade as possibility for more than a year, and it's been a long ongoing debate how much was too much for the Avs to offer him in their tight cap situation.

I'm sure if one pays more attention to the wider social media, which is full of low-information types, then there were likely far more of what you are referring to on both extremes.
I think there's a difference a lot of other fans don't realize having not watched him as closely. Rants always put up points in Colorado, but in his last couple years he stopped playing physical, hounding the puck and winning battles that weren't initiated by another player.

Some of us just got frustrated watching such a talented player coast and score off insane efforts by MacK or Nuke. It worked for the Avs, but it doesn't work when you want $13mil a season. Necas has been a great change as a result because he does everything Rantanen stopped doing and does it at the same speed as MacK. Not as good, but sometimes it's not just about skill but effort.

So my guess is Rantanen hasn't changed a lot (albeit I haven't watched him), but he still looks great if you don't know the difference.

Fans, not even necessarily Colorado fans, were "on the ledge" because of the obvious disparity in numbers, not because they were stupid. The comment above is what is stupid. Tulsky should have traded for MacK, not Miko according to your logic.
My main point is that conventional wisdom pointed to this being a win win trade from the very beginning. Rantanen point totals were obviously inflated to some degree by MacK and Makar, but his elite playmaking and scoring in tight spaces combined with his puck protection in the offensive zone would benefit our grind it out cycle game more than what Necas brought to the table for us. I can’t really put too much credence into Rantanen’s down turn in general play and demeanor towards the end of his Colorado career, Tulsky obviously did his research and there are no complaints with his game for the Canes so far. Shift by shift impact and the quality he’s brought will translate to numbers eventually. I’d be worried if we were seeing a checked out guy not pulling his weight but that’s just not the case

On the flip side, Necas was inconsistent and was a polarizing figure in Carolina before a real breakout this year. Constantly felt like a fish out of water and struggled to build chemistry with anyone, his game which so obviously was always going to gel well with MacK felt at odds with the coach Rod game plan. Necas blowing up in Colorado next to MacK isn’t a stick i’ll use to measure Rantanen’s success in Carolina, i’m genuinely happy to see him succeed there.

Very well might be rallying against a vocal minority and bringing complaints about social media talk over to this forum, a lot of being noise from Canes fans who are hitting the panic button for no reason instead of giving the trade literally anytime to settle down a bit before acting like chickens with their heads cut off.

Rantanen will improve in Carolina. However, I think he should sign elsewhere. Can't treat him like he's a 60 pt guy.

Avs pro scouting has done an incredibly good job of getting players who fit their style

Necas, Toews, Lekhnonen, Drouin etc.

Only big miss I can think of is Mittlestadt (and goalies but that's different)
You can add nuke and Kadri to that list as well
