- Their current contracts expire at the end of this season
- Drai re-upped for 14M/year in September
- Mikko waits and people say he's going to get even more money for waiting because the cap is "skyrocketing"

So in the end the Avs will end up paying him more than they'd have paid him in September. As a result, they won't be able to use that extra cap space on other players such as Drouin and/or much needed depth. Isn't it wonderful?
