Trading for picks and prospects isn't going to help Mackinnon in his prime that's for sure.We aren't winning the cup this season

So for you who don't want to do math, 11.875-12.5 over 8 years. As Avalanche fans remain frustrated that pending unrestricted free agent Mikko Rantanen has yet to re-sign, some within the organization have been left to think ownership may not have made it a top priority. Speculation is it will take an offer between $95 million and $100 million (U.S.) to get a deal done.
I'd hope 11.875 gets it done.From Kyper:

If Rantanen would take that offer, they would still round it up to 12 million because 12x8=96I'd hope 11.875 gets it done.
You won't be happyAnything under $12M and I’m happy.
Mikko for Necas+ ... Can't let Mikko walk for nothing, 1 run with this goalie tandem ain't worth it.
No one was excited about that draft so it was hard to make an attractive deal. Besides not going to get THAT much for a player knowing his agent thinks Drai deal is the comp. And what kind of picks are you getting when it's contenders looking to deal? I think Avs probably would only do the deal for prospects already in the NHL, they may wisely say no more losing lottery tickets for us.This would be the biggest player traded for a cup run in ages. The return would be pretty solid, but still a better package would have been available at the draft.
1) Makar is under contract for this season, plus the next two.Assuming Rantanen gets signed for 13m/year for 7 years. He'll have a lot of seasons on the Avs under his belt by the time his career is done.
Where does he rank all time for the Avs?
It's hard to top Sakic or Forsberg. And he's obviously below MacK. But after that it gets murky.
Hejduk had maybe 1 or 2 peak seasons near the top. But Rantanen has been consistently higher in scoring ranking and perception as a top winger.
Tanguay has a way better offsides/60 but again only 1 or 2 years really up there in scoring.
Makar is a comparable with more current on ice value. Both have taken a significant dive in quality of play since 2022. But Rantanen will have longer tenure with the Avs. As Makar is expected to sign in Calgary next off-season.
Roy has the playoff MVP in 2001 and an insane resume but only had 96 to 2003. Mikko will have been an Av for way longer.
Could Rantanen be the fourth best Avs of all time? Could he surpass or join into the "big 3" of Sakic Forsberg and MacK?
Are you sure Makar is planning to leave next off-season? You would have to think that the last thing Makar needs right now is the increased exposure of a Canadian hockey market, as it would reveal to a wider audience just how far behind he is from Quinn HughesMakar is a comparable with more current on ice value. It’s insane… His contract will probably be a hindrance here soon. But the dudes a freak and you don’t replace that unless you get lucky. At least you aren’t getting a good replacement in a trade at this point.Rantanen gets an absurd amount of heat from this board. His production is elite and being top 10 in all-time playoff PPG ain't too shabby either.
Also a vital piece of us being a Stanley Cup champion. Yeah, trade him.Rantanen gets an absurd amount of heat from this board. His production is elite and being top 10 in all-time playoff PPG ain't too shabby either.
2022: average of 1 Norris 1 Conn Smythe per season.I like how two players who've "taken a nosedive in play" are tied 3rd in the league in points. And one is "expected" to leave in the middle of his contract. What in the world??
Makar just wants to improve as a player. And seeing Hughes more often will allow him to grow and develop.
