If Rantanen would take that offer, they would still round it up to 12 million because 12x8=96

So if we are to believe Kyper (which I do, he has proven to have sources around the league), I think we can put to bed the EF report some time ago that Draisaitl contract changed things. Because these numbers aren't indicative of that.

This would be the biggest player traded for a cup run in ages. The return would be pretty solid, but still a better package would have been available at the draft.

No one was excited about that draft so it was hard to make an attractive deal. Besides not going to get THAT much for a player knowing his agent thinks Drai deal is the comp. And what kind of picks are you getting when it's contenders looking to deal? I think Avs probably would only do the deal for prospects already in the NHL, they may wisely say no more losing lottery tickets for us.

Assuming Rantanen gets signed for 13m/year for 7 years. He'll have a lot of seasons on the Avs under his belt by the time his career is done.

Where does he rank all time for the Avs?

It's hard to top Sakic or Forsberg. And he's obviously below MacK. But after that it gets murky.

Hejduk had maybe 1 or 2 peak seasons near the top. But Rantanen has been consistently higher in scoring ranking and perception as a top winger.

Tanguay has a way better offsides/60 but again only 1 or 2 years really up there in scoring.

Makar is a comparable with more current on ice value. Both have taken a significant dive in quality of play since 2022. But Rantanen will have longer tenure with the Avs. As Makar is expected to sign in Calgary next off-season.

Roy has the playoff MVP in 2001 and an insane resume but only had 96 to 2003. Mikko will have been an Av for way longer.

Could Rantanen be the fourth best Avs of all time? Could he surpass or join into the "big 3" of Sakic Forsberg and MacK?
