- Say Mikko signs for 12m x 8 years
- Say the cap in 2025/2026 is 92m as projected right now
- That gives the Avs 15 players signed, 82.6625m caphit
- Leaves 9.3375m to fill in the 7 blank spots, mostly for a starting goalie
- Say you fill in the 4F/2D with league min. of 0.8m = 4.8m, leaves 4.5m for starting goalie

Landy (7m) - Mack (12.6m) - Mikko (12m)
Lehky (4.5m) - Mitts (5.75m) - Nuke (6.125m)
Wood (2.5m) - Ross (4.0m) - ?
? - ? - ?
Parker (0.825m)

Toews (7.25m) - Makar (9.0m)
G (5.0 m) - Manson (4.5m)
? - ?
McNorris (0.775m)

?
Annunen (0.8375m)

Not the end of the world I guess. Also depends obviously on Landy and Nuke, if they aren't around, could use their money for Drouin, LOC, etc.

Probably a bridge for kovalenko and I'd put Richie at 3c between Wood+Colton

Why should he take a penny less than Pastrnak, when he’s the better player of the two and his contract kicks in two years after Pasta?
Because he's happy with his situation and doesn't think he should be paid as if he's anywhere near the second best center in the world.

If Avs fans get frustrated by Mikko, I can't imagine how they'd handle Zegras or Necas.
There is a reason these guys are being shopped by their teams. Guys like this are a dime a dozen, yeah they are cheap but they aren’t going to get you 50 goals -100 points. Nowhere close. Good young players get locked up, there is a very good reason why these guys aren’t.

Newhook had a good season last year...he got injured but other than that he was good. 34 points in 55 games and he finished the season with 12 points in 13 games while centering Joel Armia and the corpse of Brendan Gallagher.

Will be interesting to see how he does next season if he stays healthy and they keep him at center.

The hockey news posted an article on him a couple of days ago:

At 23, Newhook is a serious candidate for a breakout season in 2024-25, not only because he finished the season so strongly after missing 27 games with a high ankle sprain, but because he dragged a couple of veterans along with him who looked sort of, kind of, done. In doing his part to revive the fortunes of Brendan Gallagher and Joel Armia, Newhook looks primed to fulfill his potential as a legitimate second-line center.

I'd pump the brakes on Newhook breaking out. Sure, maybe poor linemates but the guy only put up 26 even strength points. Over 82 games that prorates to 39, which puts him in the same range as noted offensive stalwarts such as Trent Frederic, Warren Foegele, Nick Bjugstad, Brandon Saad, and Tyler Toffoli.

39 ES points on that team with those linemates is bad?
