1: KHL
2: SHL, NLA
3: DEL, Czech extraliga
4: Liiga
5: Austrian league
6: EIHL/Denmark/Norway/ALPShl
7: Belarus/Kazaksthan/Poland/Ersta Liga/Latvian league
8: Slovakia extraliga

KHL is still the best, of course.

NLA is just as good as SHL, i dont think SHL is better.

DEL and Czech Extraliga have become better while Liiga have become worse.

Latvian league and Poland League is becoming better and better.

Only first leagues ranked.

Feel free to comment and make your own rankings.

1. KHL
2. SEL
3 to 6. LIIGA, Extraliga, NLA,
7/8 DEL and Slovak liiga

I'd say the difference between 3 to 6 is marginal and arguments could be made in every direction.
I also don't think it's a steep dropoff to 7/8 from 3 to 6. All very close.

I do think young Czechs will start playing in DEL more and mroe since they are developing a lot more NHLer's than the Extraliga is.

I just think that the Slovak league is really much weaker than DEL.

The Slovak league isn't that attractive even to good Slovak players, one could easily nominate a national team only using players from other European leagues and there wouldn't be any major omissions.

I think that ranking is more or less correct but still skewed towards top heavy leagues. I don't think the DEL is better than the Liiga and Extraliga as a whole for an example.

Why would you suggest that the DEL is more "top heavy" than Liiga?

Honestly, I would rank Slovak Extraliga on the EBEL level. I watch the Slovak league regularly, and watched a few EBEL games this season, the level of play was pretty much the same. There is even a Slovak team (Bratislava Capitals) in EBEL that ended the season on 7th spot, that would probably rank the same in the Slovak league. National team prep games between Slovak and Austrian players from both leagues led to Slovaks outplaying the Austrian side, though this should not be used as metric as EBEL has a lot of foreign players.

There was a time, when Slovan Bratislava considered EBEL. But after their management saw one playoff game, they decided to decline this offer. There was talk, they were disappointed with the quality they saw.
I know i know, just a little historical anecdote.

Maybe something like that:

1. KHL
2.-3. SHL/NLA
4. Liiga
5. DEL
6. Czech Extraliga
7.-9. Slovakia/VHL/Allsvenskan
10.-11. Belarus/Kazakhstan
12-15. EBEL/NLB/Denmark/Mestis
16.-19. EIHL/DEL2/Norway/France
20.-26. Czech2/Alps/Poland/Romania/Ukraine/Hungary/Beneliga

Here are the Slovak players who are signed by NHL teams, and who (because of the pandemic) started the season in the Slovak Tipos Liga, but who are now in the AHL/NHL.

Martin Pospisil
Robert Lantosi
Marian Studenic
Roman Durny
Adam Huska

I follow Slovak hockey and saw some games of their league this season. My impression, compared to Sweden, is that the best teams in the Slovak league are on par with the middle teams in HockeyAllsvenskan.

I've never watched the Polish, Belarussian, Latvian or Kazakh leagues - but these are leagues where sometimes old and washed up Slovaks end up, not the other way around.

The Tipos Liga isn't exactly impressive, but it's a good league for players looking to find their way into the Czech Extraliga, SHL, Liiga, NLA, DEL and even the KHL. The same can't be said about the Polish, Latvian or Kazakh leagues, as well as some other leagues you're ranking higher.

"Old and washed up Slovaks" usually go to the French Riviera to finish their rich careers, but otherwise you describe it quite accurately.:D

Is that a ranking by money ??
NLA is not above Liiga, DEL is not better than CZ extraliga. In fact, the NLA is a quality at the CZ league level.

Mostly not participating, because it makes no sense financially.
And when they participated, it was a complete disaster.
And so far they have always participated, just after the last year of BB, she stated that they do not want to play due to finances. Last year, the CHL was canceled for known reasons.
