Not that losing McCann wasn't stupid but the voting option is incorrect.
He didn't protect Kerfoot, Seattle chose McCann.

** Still Marleau for me.

Guys, this list could easily go to 15. That's how bad Dubas was. And to think Shanahan was going to keep him on initially. Get rid of the cause of these problems. A fantasy league manager could do better.

I’m surprised running back the same core is not an option.
At the end of the day the worst thing (for Shanahan, Dubas and now Treliving) may be the continued same core over and over.
Dubas made some decent moves and I like the players Tre has signed but:
We will either have success or we could be the next San Jose. Max Domi or Jared McCaan won’t be the success or failure benchmark.
The same core will hold the distinction.

1. Signing John Tavares
Tough crowd.

Tavares level players hitting the market never happens and when one from the area did and he chose us and actually didn't suck, he maintained his play and should for the next two seasons. He didn't come in and bomb, but he's the worst move I guess. All of those terrible moves the franchise has made in just Dubas time frame and JT who will statistically go down may be 15 top in scoring for the organization all-time inside his 1st contract, the one we are discussing, is his worst move as GM.

Completely disagree that he has maintained his play. Hes not even the best player on his line anymore. He cannot drive a line to save his life. He needs easy match ups, and is brutal 5 on 5. Yeah he was solid first 2 years, but after that its been a disappointment for what we're paying him. Theres reasonable talk that he shouldnt even be sticking at 2C anymore.

What does Seth Jarvis have to do with anything?
Only because Carolina took Jarvis with the pick we traded Carolina to take on Marleau's last year, but there's no guarantee we even would have drafted Jarvis. Dubas also traded back into the 1st after that trade and we took Amirov, so it's not like we didn't have a similar pick in the end.

He's a 75-80+ point guy every year who excels at the faceoff circle. You can take that to the bank the next two seasons and each of his first 5 as a Leaf. Give him Marner for the whole year and I think he can score 45, he might not, but I still think he might.

San Jose made it to the Cup finals 1 year during their window. Being the next them isn't a bad thing at all.

We still need to show we can win a round again at this point. Hopefully this core has it in them or it might be the most talented go nowhere group.

Believe it or not, I am somewhat hopeful with the additions of Bertuzzi and Domi. Both of them (Especially Bertuzzi) have proven that they can step up and produce come playoff time.

Not gonna lie, I endorsed several of those "bad" transactions: protecting RHD Holl instead of protecting more forwards, acquiring Foligno (the price was higher than it should've been), taking a flyer on Murray (although there should've been more retention and a larger sweetening). I wouldn't have traded Kadri, I think he should've been a Leaf lifer, but at the time Kerfoot and Barrie seemed like a decent return, maybe Dubas should've flipped Barrie immediately or at least moved him mid-season as it was evident that he did not fit into the team's system and structure. And most damning of all: I posted the rhetorical question long before the Marleau deal "Would you trade our 1st round pick in order to retain both Kapanen and Johnsson?"

What am I saying? Maybe I also should not be the GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Zaitsev/Brown deal wasn't fantastic either. Also the Par Lindholm-Nic Petan was an odd decision to deal center depth for a project player on the cusp of the NHL playoffs.

Agreed. I think they will both add a different kind of element to the team, especially in the playoffs. Bertuzzi was also a beast for Grand Rapids in the playoffs. Just seems like a playoff kind of player.

Since I had the Marleau trade as my #1, I'm torn between Mrazek and Murray here (in the event the latter has to be traded at a loss or have his contract bought out). Being compensated to take on a reduced contract is undoubtedly nice. Likely not as nice to me is having to carry three goalies or potentially parting with either of Samsonov or Woll in some way, shape or form.

Marner with Tavares for a full year, Tavares probably gets 40 or close to it again. The best we’ve seen Tavares 5 on 5 has been with Marner, I’m not sure why they don’t focus on that.
