Overrated: Dystopia (don't understand the hype at all)
Underrated: Cryptic Writings, The World Needs A Hero, Youthanasia

Obscure Sphinx

1. Void Mother
2. Anaesthetic Inhalation Ritual
3. Epitaphs

Ruined by my own unrealistic expectations: Epitaphs, but it's not my fault they released the amazing half of the album before release and not the mediocre middle tracks damn it.

Streetlight Manifesto

2. Somewhere in the Between
3. The Hands That Thieve

Overrated song: SITB title track

Deströyer 666

1. Unchain the Wolves
2. Phoenix Rising
3. Cold Steel... For an Iron Age
4. Wildfire
5. Defiance

Underrated album: Defiance. When your first 3 albums are the peak of the genre you play and the literal Holy Grail of extreme metal, it's hard to live up to expectations with an album that's merely very good.

The good Metallica albums

1. Kill 'Em All
2. Ride the Lightning
3. Master of Puppets

You can almost exactly pinpoint the moment when they ran out of Mustaine-written riffs.

1. Powerslave
2. Killers
3. The Number of the Beast
4. Somewhere in Time
5. Iron Maiden
6. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

Fugazi:

1. Red Medicine
2. In On the Kill Taker
3. Repeater + 3 Songs
4. The Argument
5. End Hits
6. 13 Songs
7. Steady Diet of Nothing

nice list

Looking back on this list, I'd probably move End Hits up to #3, that album has grown on me over the years, I appreciate it so much more now. I'd also probably move The Argument ahead of Repeater as well. So my updated list would be:

1. Red Medicine
2. In On the Kill Taker
3. End Hits
4. The Argument
5. Repeater + 3 Songs
6. 13 Songs
7. Steady Diet of Nothing

Some faves that nobody has done yet, based on quick consideration and not much thought. There have been times where some albums have been favored over others, but at this moment here we go:

Ozzy
No More Tears
Blizzard of Ozz
No Rest For The Wicked
Ozzmosis
Diary of a Madman

Tough to put the following in order. I like them all for different reasons.

Scream
The Ultimate Sin
Down To Earth
Bark at the Moon (although BATM itself is one of my favorite Ozzy songs)
Black Rain

Slayer
Reign in Blood
South of Heaven
Seasons in the Abyss
God Hates Us All
Diabolus in Musica
Christ Illusion
World Painted Blood
Show No Mercy
Hell Awaits
Repentless
Divine Intervention
Undisputed Attitude

Children of Bodom
Follow the Reaper
Hatebreeder
Hate Crew Deathroll
Are You Dead Yet?
Halo of Blood
Something Wild
I Worship Chaos
Blooddrunk
Relentless Reckless Forever

Black Label Society Top 5 only, Zakk is all over the place with his releases...
Order of the Black
Sonic Brew
The Blessed Hellride
Stronger Than Death
1919 Eternal

Amon Amarth top 5 only
With Oden on Our Side
Twilight of the Thunder God
Surtur Rising
Jomsviking
Versus the World

I was going to try to do The Black Dahlia Murder, but it's too hard. Everything is too close to put into order.

Between the Buried and Me:

1) Colors: 10/10 - Perfection.
2) Parallax 2: 10/10 - Very close to being #1. On any given day the top 2 flip-flop.
3) Coma Ecliptic: 10/10 - A perfect album, but it never reaches the peaks of the top 2 albums. Each song is amazing, but nothing reaches the level of Sun of Nothing or Silent Flight Parliament.
4) Parallax 1: 10/10 - It's hard to rank a 3 song EP. Every song is perfect, but it has to be ranked lower than the other full length albums.
5) The Great Misdirect: 9/10
6) Alaska: 8.5/10
7) Between the Buried and Me: 8.5/10 - Very underrated IMO.
8) Silent Circus: 8/10
9) The Anatomy Of: 4/10 - Not needed. Wish they did more to make the covers their own.

Prince - haven't heard everything, but I'll do a top 10.

1. Sign o' The Times
2. Dirty Mind
3. Purple Rain
4. 1999
5. Parade
6. Gold Experience
7. The Black Album
8. Love Symbol
9. Come
10. Hits/B-Sides (just for the b-sides)

I'm not crazy about his later stuff, which has none of the earlier edge. Like most people.

Like with Dylan, the best thing about Prince is the unreleased/bootlegged material.

I notice many people like Pink Floyd. There is something about this band that makes them the greatest thing ever while you're in your 20s and an afterthought when you reach your 30s.

Pink Floyd:

1. DSOTM
-Yeah, it's cliche to rank this first, but it really was the most iconic album of the 70's IMO. It remained on the Billboard's LP/tapes chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. That's insane. And to me, it doesn't even feature a definitive top 3 song from Floyd all time. But you simply cannot beat it top to bottom. There isn't a bad song on there and most of them are among the greatest classic rock productions ever. It blended the reaches of early Floyd psychedelic features and a more modern progressive sound for the time perfectly. A pure masterpiece.

2. Wish You Were Here
-Has my favorite Floyd song of all time on it. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is the quintessential Floyd production. It literally encompasses just about every sound from Floyd to that part of their careers. And given it was a perfect title and tribute to Syd Barrett, how can you not just listen in awe? Gilmour's 4 mystical 4 notes opening in part 2 are forever etched into my brain. They could have released Shine as a stand a lone and it would have sold millions of copies.

3. Meddle
-This is where I personally throw a curve ball to many other Floyd lovers. "One of these days" is such an incredible way to open an album. I honestly think it was a 1971 version of any great Tool song that would come 25-30 years later. So comparable which makes what Floyd was able to do with far less technical advancements of that time, all the more incredible. Pillow of Winds and Fearless are hidden gems in their catalog. And last, but certainly not least, Echoes was their pre-Dark Side masterpiece. The Live in Pompeii version is my favorite performance of any Floyd song ever.

4. The Piper at the Gates Dawn
-The Syd Barrett era (which wasn't long anyway) was a bit too psychedelic for me personally but it's hard to ignore or rate this gem of an album any lower. Barrett had a huge influence on Waters specifically. And you can find pieces of this style on the greatest Floyd songs from any album on the list. Personal favorites are Lucifer Sam and Interstellar Overdrive (sort of an Echoes lite song).

5. The Wall
-I personally think some folks overrate the Wall to one degree or another. It's a fantastic album, don't get me wrong, but there is more fluff on it, than some of the other albums on this list, especially the ones above it. Obviously Comfortably Numb is pure brilliance, and I love Goodbye Blue Sky, but you can sort of tell this was the end of the line for the group in terms of having any collective input and unity as a whole.

After that, I think you can sort of start to lump many of the remaining albums into more tier like structures although Obscured by Clouds is quite underrated IMO.

Favorite Songs Personally:

1. Shine
2. Echoes (especially the Live in Pompeii version)
3. Time
4. Us and Them
5. Comfotably Numb
6. Hey You
7. Any Coulour You like/Brain Damage/Eclipse
8. Interstellar Overdrive
9. One of these days
10. Mother

Really almost all of their catalog is amazing. :)
