I notice many people like Pink Floyd. There is something about this band that makes them the greatest thing ever while you're in your 20s and an afterthought when you reach your 30s.

This might be the most ridiculous statement I've ever read regarding music! :help:

I'm well into my 30's now and have only gained more of an appreciation for their entire catalog over the past 5+ years than I ever did in my 20's, although I still loved them then.

There were plenty of amazing bands in rock genre during the 60's and 70's but time only enhances how unique and progressive Floyd was to the world of music IMHO.

Maybe I should speak for myself then!

Steely Dan

One of the greatest studio bands of all time. So tight and generated some of the greatest fusion of all time. RIP btw to Walter Becker who died a few days ago.

1. Can't Buy a Thrill - 1972 (10/10)
-Seriously, one of the greatest debut albums of all time. I wore the cassette tape out in my mother's old Subaru back in the day and as I've grown and learned the guitar myself, have an even greater appreciation for SD. The were elite musicians and this album was perfection for the time period and genre. One of my favorites all time.

2. Aja - 1977 (10/10)
-If you are a vinyl nut like I am this is a must own. The production is amazing and the album itself is about as sublime as you can get if you're into the jazz/rock/funk scene. It won a Grammy back when they were actually meaningful. So break out the hats and hooters folks. :D

3. Two Against Nature - 2000 (9/10)
-Consider the year. 2000. Consider Fagen and Becker were 50ish years old at this point. Consider the type of music that was dominating the airwaves. And yet, this incredible album won 4 Grammy's including album of the year. Yeah, it's really damn good.

4. Countdown to Ecstacy - 1973 (9/10)
-Seriously, its hard to pick these albums. CTE is so damn tight and you can see the crossover into the more consistent fusion genre here. "Bodhisattva" breaks the doors down as the first track and there are very very few dull moments the rest of the way.

5. Pretzel Logic - 1974 (8.5/10)

6. The Royal Scam - 1976 (8/10)

7. Katy Lied - 1975 (7/10)

8. Everything Must Go - 2003 (6/10)

9. Gaucho - 1980 (5.5/10)

I left Wolves off because it's essentially brand new and I feel I haven't listened to it enough to get a real feel for it. So ranking it right now would be unfair for me.

Great thread, very interesting to read your favorites and ranking.

Led Zep I would rank in the same order they came out. The first album was a revelation to me and my musician buddies when it came out.(yeah, I'm old ) We played that damn album so often, by the end you could hear both sides simultaneously.

Beatles is more complicated to rank. Revolver (US Version) would be my favorite, followed by Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper and Rubber Soul.

Stones I would go with Let it bleed, Beggar's Banquet and the rest in no particular order, the older stuff was great.

Pink Floyd I'll say Dark side of the Moon, Meddle and Wish you were here. The rest depending on how I feel.

A Carolina Jubilee - The Travelling Song/Pretty Girl From Annapolis
Four Thieves Gone - Distraction #74
Country Was - Old Wyom

Anybody else like the Avett Brothers?

I was on the fence between going rock (incubus) or hip hop (the roots).
Do you want more?!?! is top 2 for me, dropping Game Theory to 3rd. The rest is spot on.

That one is very tough for me. I think its more of a 2A/2B depending on which i'm listening to at the time.

Do you want more?!?! is better musically, but Game Theory is better lyrically. Also, i think Game Theory is the perfect anthem for inner city philadelphia (my hometown).

You can't go wrong either way... The Roots are a generational talent in music.
